For an easy-care splash of color in your landscape, try this fabulous dwarf variegated Weigela. Proven Winners® ColorChoice® My Monet® Weigela (Weigela florida 'Verweig') is a deciduous shrub prized for its colorful flowers and foliage. It is certainly as pretty as a picture! My Monet® is the first hardy dwarf Weigela variety ever introduced. This rugged little plant stays small and compact.
Hummingbirds are drawn to the lush, long-lasting floral display! Clear, raspberry-pink blooms are held in sprays above the foliage in spring. What a delicious mix of colors all in the same plant! Butterflies and bees will certainly come in for a taste of these rich nectar sources.
Even the lustrous foliage is ornamental! Each showy green leaf is daubed with vanilla white margins, which might turn strawberry-pink if planted in full sun. Versatile My Monet® Weigela features a tight growth habit and colorful foliage! You'll love the season-long color display year after year! Get the colors and variegation of a classic Monet painting in your USDA growing zone 4 to 6 landscape.
Planting and Application:
The more, the merrier with this special variety! Although a single specimen will turn heads, we think a massed planting of this small shrub is most effective. Run a low, colorful informal hedge along the edge of your garden beds. Plant them 12 inches apart, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. They'll fill in to create a chic cover that brings visual interest all growing season long.
Create a special garden bed on the south side of mature evergreen trees, and enliven the look with a mass planting. You'll gain a special garden feature for very little work. Plant them in a zigzagging double row in a wide bed running along your front walk. How easy to gain curb appeal, butterfly nectar resource, and season-long color!
Widen the bed for a pretty mass planting. Pop a long row of Ninebark shrubs behind them to become a dark contrasting foliage partner. Presto! You'll look like you paid a garden designer "Big Bucks"!
It is easy to grow and looks marvelous along the edge of your garden beds as edging since these tidy, space-saving little shrubs only grow 12-18 inches tall and 18-24 inches wide! My Monet® is perfect for planting in front of taller foundation shrubs. Use it to hide the "leggy" bare stems of any perennial or shrub in your mixed borders.
My Monet® is very adaptable to container planting. Try a pair flanking on either side of your front door to greet your guests in style. Be sure to use them as a "Thriller" in containers on your deck, balcony, patio, or sun porch.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
My Monet® will perform best in full sun. However, in the warmer Zones, it appreciates partial shade in the afternoon. Ensure they have at least four hours of direct sunlight a day, or you'll see reduced flowering. Weigela shrubs prefers well-drained soil types. If you need to improve drainage, add additional soil to a heaped mound and plant in it. Add a pretty border, and it becomes a raised bed!
Provide an even amount of medium moisture on a regular basis. Wood chip mulch should be added in a three-inch layer to cover the root system, keep it nice and moist and keep new mass planting weeded until the Weigela grows together and touch. You will want to reapply mulch every other year or so. Please take care to ensure the mulch doesn't touch the stems directly, but is pulled back at least 3 inches.
There is no need to prune these short dwarf shrubs since they remain neat and tidy on their own. But you can shear after flowering if desired, or use renewal pruning to remove older, less vigorous stems and make room for the younger, heavier flowering branches. Blooming on new wood as well, you may enjoy a rebloom later in the fall.
- Most Color in Full Sun & Partial Shade Too
- Rich Well-Drained Soil
- Slower Growing Dwarf = Maintenance Free
- Prune After Flowering For Possible Rebloom Later
- Easy Care, Needs Little to No Pruning
As the years go by, you'll grow to count on your My Monet® Weigela for bright, bold colors, and an alluring image of style. Our growers love these special plants, too! We'll take great pride in preparing them for you and shipping them directly to your doorstep. Decorate your landscape with the bold mastery of My Monet® Weigela bushes this season.
