Understanding Our Container Sizes
At Nature Hills, our plants are sold in industry-standard nursery containers. You will notice we use the word "container" rather than "gallon." Container numbers follow a nursery trade size standard, not liquid volume. The number tells you the plant's size category and general maturity level. A larger container means a more established plant with a stronger root system.

Container Sizes
Quart
Plant age: 6 months to 1 year
Best for: Ground covers, perennials, ornamental grasses
What to expect: Our smallest and most affordable size. Well-suited for planting in multiples across a large area. Allow 1 to 2 seasons for full establishment.
#1 Container
Plant age: 1 to 2 years
Best for: Shrubs, perennials, smaller trees
What to expect: About the size of a large coffee can. A well-developed root system in a manageable size. Good value choice when you have time to let the plant grow into the space over a season or two.
#2 Container
Plant age: 2 to 3 years
Best for: Shrubs and trees where you want faster establishment
What to expect: A noticeable step up from a #1 in both plant size and root development. Good choice when you want visible presence without going to a larger size.
#3 Container
Plant age: 3 to 4 years
Best for: Most plants, most situations — flowering trees, shade trees, evergreen shrubs
What to expect: Our most popular size. Strong, developed root system. Plants in a #3 container make an immediate visual impact from day one. If you want a head start rather than waiting seasons for a plant to fill in, this is typically the right choice.
#5 Container and Larger
Plant age: 4 to 5+ years
Best for: Specimen plants, privacy screens, maximum instant impact
What to expect: Large, mature plants ready to make an immediate statement in your landscape. We also carry #7 and larger sizes for select varieties.
Why "Container" and Not "Gallon"?
Nursery container sizes follow an industry trade standard established for the nursery and horticulture industry. The number is a size designation, not a measurement of liquid volume. Actual soil volume varies by plant type, root mass, and growing medium. Using "container" is the accurate industry term. When you see #1, #2, or #3, think of it as the plant's size tier, not a gallon measurement.
Root Pouch Containers
Some Nature Hills plants arrive in a Root Pouch, a breathable fabric container made from 100% recycled materials. Root Pouches encourage denser root development through air pruning, which discourages root circling and promotes a stronger, more fibrous root ball at the time of planting.

There are two types. Knowing which one you have changes how you plant:
- Degradable (brown or tan fabric): Plant the entire pouch directly in the ground. The fabric breaks down naturally in the soil over time.
- Non-degradable (black or gray fabric): Remove the pouch before planting. Cut the bottom open with scissors, then peel the sides away. The fibrous root ball will hold its shape.
Not sure which type you have? Check the tag on your plant or contact us and we will confirm.

Description
Like a sonic BOOM, this fabulous Weigela variety bursts upon the scene with an explosion of color! A fantastic offering from the gardens of Proven Winners® ColorChoice®, each tiny blossom of the Sonic Bloom® Pink Reblooming Weigela (Weigela florida SONIC BLOOM 'Bokrasopin') appears clothed in stunning, hot pink with a deep pink throat!
The multitude of blooms appear in May, clustered along the branches in such profusion of flowers that your shrub will, at times, appear to be nothing more than a mound of colorful blooms. Then you enjoy a rebloom again, and again! Much to the delight of your pollinators and beneficial insects!
As the flowers recede and rebloom, you'll begin to notice the dramatic, dark green foliage that fills out the few spaces between the blossoms - which continue to rebloom until the first frost! Sonic Bloom® doesn't need deadheading and provides a remarkable show - from spring through fall! Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 8, there is little that fazes this adaptable shrub!
Planting and Application:
Your Sonic Bloom® Pink Weigela is a very dense shrub with a mounded nature! It's perfect for foundation plantings that bump up the curb appeal with three seasons of color! Create vivid backdrops and hedges with these mid-sized flowering ornamental bushes! Overall, it's a very hardy shrub that works well in containers, as an ornamental hedge along an outbuilding, or even just planted singly for a strong accent in your yard. Mix and match with other Sonic Bloom® Weigela for a varied mixed border in front of a hedge or dark evergreens for a dramatic display!
Get ready with your camera, because pollinators and Hummingbirds will flock to your Sonic Bloom®, but deer will pass it by. Set up some hummingbird feeders and a comfy chair, because you're about to find out quickly why groups of hummers are referred to as 'charms'! Snip a few blooms for your cut flower arrangements, or just enjoy the flowers all growing season in your porch planters and adorning your driveway. Try creating a flowering hedge that screens your front yard from the sidewalk for just a touch of pretty privacy!
- Hot Pink Trumpet-Shaped Blossoms
- Deep Pink Throats Like Bulls-Eyes For Pollinators & Hummingbirds!
- Reblooming - Spring-Fall Flowers!
- Three Season Color
- Works Well in Planters, Backdrops & Hedges, Specimen & Foundations!
#ProPlantTips for Care:
This pretty shrub may look high-maintenance, but it's actually quite easy to grow. Plant in full sun for the best color. Weigela shrubs require at least six hours a day, with eight or more just improving the color and quality. Super easy to grow and doesn't fuss or require fussing, Weigela are very late to leaf out in spring, so be patient if you don't see signs of life on your shrub. Doing best in average garden soils, Weigela enjoys moderate moisture levels. Weigela does need well-drained soils but is not particular on the soil type. A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture in the ground as well as insulates the root system from heat and chill.
Weigela won't need much pruning, or deadheading in order to rebloom. However, if you wish to give them some pruning, just be sure to do it right after that first spring flush of color. Weigela does benefit from a renewal pruning every few years, with the oldest stems removed that are not as productive to keep the shrub dense, loaded in blooms and lushly covered in foliage.
- Full Sun Lover
