Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Some plants are so much a part of a garden culture that it's hard to imagine a landscape without them. Boxwood are shrubs like that! From the palace gardens of Versailles to the Victorian Painted Ladies in San Francisco, Boxwoods have been in the picture!

A plant doesn't attain that status without good reason! The Proven Winners® ColorChoice® North Star® Boxwood (Buxus sempervirens 'North Star' PP#15998) is a superb new hardy Boxwood that lives up to the legend! These are great broadleaf evergreens that hold their color all growing season!

North Star® features very dark foliage with a dense, globe shape that requires little if any pruning. Growing just 2-3 feet tall but spreading into a rounded 3-4 feet wide, you can easily prune or shear these fantastic broadleaf evergreens to any size or shape you and your landscape needs most! Thriving in colder growing zones of USDA growing zones 5 to 9.

Planting and Application:

If your vision of a garden includes classic lines and timeless plants, you can't go off course having North Star® as your guide! This Boxwood stays emerald green all year, providing a beautiful counterpoint to a dreary winter and a refreshing sharpness to the dog days of summer. The lush greenery lasts all year long and this low-growing little garden gem will stand out in both sun or partial shade!

North Star® is perfect for the classic Boxwood hedge of English garden fame that so many gardeners crave! This Boxwood would be perfectly happy being the formal gatekeeper to any garden bed. Create a low edge to box in your Cottage Garden, or add a low backdrop to your mixed Perennial garden!

Perhaps, though, you aren't interested in a formal hedge, but lean more toward plants shaped like hearts or bunnies or frogs? North Star® Boxwood can be sheared into just about any shape and responds well to harsh pruning but also looks great when left to grow naturally!

Have some fun and pot up your North Star® in a fancy planter or container and train it into a topiary! Any shape your imagination can think of will suit this shrub just fine! Take it slow and soon you will have a specimen and conversation piece in your landscape, porch or patio!

  • Lush Dense Green Foliage
  • Slower Growing Broadleaf Evergreen
  • Lower Growing Than Wide Compact Form
  • Adaptable & Versatile - Sheared Or Natural
  • Space-Saving Low Hedges, Specimens, Vertical Elements & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This Boxwood shrub does fine in full sun or part shade and isn't picky about soil. Any kind of well-drained soil type is suitable. It has its preferences, of course, and does best in an alkaline bed. Provide regular moisture access for young shrubs but once established in your garden, Boxwood only needs supplemental moisture during drought and water before the winter sets in, as they need this moisture in their leaves to protect them against the drying winter winds.

Prune or shear after the first flush of new spring growth. You can shear again in summer to clean up any new growth but allow any growth after to harden off before winter. Provide a 3-4-inch layer of mulch around the root system to keep them happy!

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Well-Drained Average to Alkaline Soil
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Prune After The First Flush Of Growth
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant & Easy to Grow

If your vision of a garden includes classic lines and timeless plants, you can't go off course having North Star® as your guide. Hurry and order your own Proven Winners® ColorChoice® North Star® Boxwood today from Nature Hills Nursery!
