Growing Zones 3-9
Like most smoothies, Rainbow Rhythm® Orange Smoothie Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Orange Smoothie') is comprised of many different pieces that come together to create a perfectly blended whole!
The show starts in the spring when deep green foliage bursts from the ground to meet the newly changed season. Of course, that's not what you're waiting for … You're waiting, ever so patiently for those incredible blooms! Should their gorgeous blooms not be enough to lift your eyebrows, one whiff certainly will be! Orange Smoothie is delightfully fragrant!
Oh, and they are worth waiting for! During the summer months, the most intricately colored flowers will flourish. Each petal starts as light green in the center before fading to yellow, rose, and finally finishing a light peach color near the edges. This flower's broad orange mango petals with a light rose band makes fantastic floral arrangements for your dining room table or kitchen counter. Before picking though, you'll want the perfect spot to plant in the garden.
Rainbow Rhythm® is right, that's more than half of ROYGBIV on a single flower! You can enjoy the stunning flowers over and over as Orange Smoothie is a rebloomer! The neighborhood will watch in awe as you have a fresh set of flowers day after day. They won't be the only ones either. Butterflies will flock from near and far for a chance at some nectar.
Orange Smoothie is brought to you by the top hybridizers Proven Winners®, so you can be assured this herbaceous perennial will not disappoint! As if that weren't enough credibility, this perennial is part of the Premium Daylilies club! This means it's been selected as a high-performing plant for having incredible blooms, vibrant colors, and impressive winter hardiness throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9!
Planting and Application:
Daylilies are a great choice if you're in an urban setting. They're fairly tolerant of polluted city environments, slopes, poor and dry soils, and that persistent winter salting. Due to its salt-tolerant nature, many people like to use Daylilies by their driveways and roads, and as a wonderful Xeric landscape plant! Plus Daylilies are on many fire-wise landscaping lists.
They create a lovely and colorful border and you won't have to worry about damaging them when winter comes. Daylilies are often used as mass plantings due because the more planted close together, the more dramatic the overall effect!
Orange Smoothie looks fantastic all on its own too. Cottage gardens are another area where Orange Smoothie excels! It's quirky enough to fit right into a garden where uniqueness and quality are kings. Plant it as an accent in your perennial garden or as a spunky focal point in your pollinator plant planting! Its mid-sized growing habit makes sit great to use as a middle-of-the-garden planting.
Plant it in places that could use an injection of life and vibrant chromatic color come fall. This perennial won't just bloom in the summer, it'll rebloom as the season changes as well!
These space-saving lovelies are even perfect thrillers in planters and containers around your porch or patio in the sun! Fill planting tubs, and container gardens too!
One thing is for sure, no matter where you plant Orange Smoothie, it'll draw eyes and drop jaws of all who come across it!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Daylilies, especially Premium Daylilies, just about take care of themselves. You might think that's an exaggeration but it's not! Almost nothing bothers Orange Smoothie! Not the cold, winter salt, juglone, or even slopes will slow this show-pony perennial down.
When planting, try to find a spot in full sun to let it soak in the rays all day long. Well-drained soils are also a plus but that's just about it. This Daylily will thrive in places many other perennials would struggle! If you'd like, consider adding a 3-4 inch layer of mulch around the base. This helps conserve water and keeps the roots cool. As an added bonus, mulch usually helps keep the weeds down and the overall aesthetic of the garden up.
Once that first round of flowers are done, you can really clean up the look of your planting by Deadheading those flowering stems that are done blooming and at the same time helps encourage reblooming until fall! If you'd like to give a quick cut then wait until late autumn, after it's done blooming for the year and frost killed off your foliage, grab your shears, and give it a trim. By removing the leaves completely each fall, you'll prevent rust and other diseases from overwintering and causing problems next year. Divide every 3-5 years to keep your clumps stress-free and growing vigorously.
