Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes

The First Editions® Bali™ Hibiscus (Hibiscus syriacus 'Minfren') versatile shrubs develop many hundreds of tropical-looking white flowers over the long season. Each one is decorated with an unforgettable "splat" of Merlot purple-red center laid under a specialized frill.
Next week you'll have more blooms to play with! These larger shrubs are a wonderful selection that produces a veritable volcano of blooms. Delight local Hummingbirds and butterflies with this choice. The semi-double blooms produce few seeds, but they provide a rich source of nectar.
Hardy Hibiscus is also known as Rose of Sharon and Althea. You'll appreciate how they start blooming just when other flowering shrubs have called it quits! Tall, upright and slender growth habit means Bali™ a great size for today's lot sizes. Keep them to any height with simple pruning in early spring.
Attractive dark green foliage makes a perfect contrast to the beautifully relaxed white and red blooms. These light-hearted charmers make an excellent housewarming present for "newbie" gardeners. These outdoor plants are actually very easy to grow!
Fluttery fancy ruffled flowers of First Editions® Bali™ Rose of Sharon make an opulent statement in any landscape. With dark red veins whiskering the throats, those sophisticated blooms bring the perfect kind of drama to elevate your landscape design up and "over the top". Hibiscus are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 5 to 8, these smaller varieties only grow 5-8 feet in height and 4-7 feet in width, which of course can be altered with early spring pruning.
Planting and Application:
Use just one Bali™ Rose of Sharon as a magnificent front yard accent, or groupings for a fantastic privacy screen and outdoor "room divider" in a small space garden. It's 5:00 somewhere, right? Get the party started...and remember to place this where you can make the most of both sides. Carve out a private spot on the far side for outdoor yoga, or a lovely getaway reading nook.
Live large in your special outdoor haven with a beautiful layer of pure romance in the background. Drape your entertainment area with these outstanding semi-double blooms July through October. Use several of them to add height to a chain link fence. Your neighbor will be thrilled, too! For a solid hedge that fills in quickly, plant them three feet apart on center. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next.
Float one or more blooms in a shallow dish of water with a floating candle for the look of a luau. Or harvest laden armloads of the slender stems to fill tall vases placed along the top of your outdoor Tiki bar. Repeat them along the back of your Butterfly Gardens or mixed borders. The flowering display can't be beat, and this dynamic colorway works well with many other shades.
Turn your sunny side yard into an oasis with their help along your property line! Squeeze every drop of value from your investment in real estate. Bali™ Althea also looks incredible as an anchor plant at the corner of a garage or garden shed. It works beautifully with nearly any style of architecture, too.
Mix and match Bali™ Hibiscus with our other offerings for a custom look. Grow them in the ground, or use them in oversize resin pots on a rented balcony. Pop one in a big container to create an easy focal point. Or use several matching containers to bring designer style to your patio or deck.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant Rose of Sharon in full sun for the best flowering. They'll stay healthy and prolific with at least six hours of sun a day. Their favorite spot would boast rich, yet well-drained soil. Add a few handfuls of compost and a packet of Nature Hills Root Booster while planting. Now...here's a secret. Rose of Sharon takes tough conditions, including clay soils and urban air. Do your best to make them happy, and be grateful for their rugged nature! Give them a moderate amount of water regularly. Young plants and container-grown plants should not dry out completely. A three-inch layer of arborist mulch over the root systems keeps them happy and cool.
We weren't kidding when we said these are forgiving enough for beginners!
Prune them to shape in early spring just before Bali™ starts to grow. They flower on new growth, so don't prune after they start growing because you'll trim off the flowers! Renewal prune every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.

Tree Form vs. Shrub Form
The details make all the difference in a garden. At Naturehills.com, we understand that little things like what form a plant is can greatly impact how you plan your landscape. So before you buy, don't forget to check which form you're getting.
Tree Form:
These are plants that have one stem coming from the ground. Plants can also be considered single stem when lower branches are removed to raise the height of the branching to a more desired height. Sometimes, you will hear a tree form referred to as a single stem.
Shrub Form:
These are bushy plants with many stems and branchings close to the ground. They are referred to as shrubs or bushes and are often shorter than their tree forms.
