Growing Zones 4-9
Take a trip around the moon and bask in the shadows! Introducing the Dark Side of the Moon Astilbe (Astilbe x 'Dark Side of the Moon') that features purple, near-black crinkled compound leaves with lovely toothy edges! Forming cascading mounds of dramatic color! Then the blooms show up on the scene for the rest of the spring and summer!
Slender green stems with purple-red offshoots soon form into fluffy rosy purple-pink foamy flowers. These blooms start from the bottom and open to the top where the darker purple-pink buds await their turn! Dark Side of the Moon keeps its pollinator and Hummingbird-friendly spires for weeks! Even drying on the plant for fall and winter interest.
Let the erect blooms open fully on the plant, then snip a few for long-lasting indoor cut flower arrangements. Allow them to dry for a long-lasting dried arrangement all winter, then start over afresh with next year's blooms. Astilbe are hardy tender perennials throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 9, and grow into 20-22 inch tall by 24-28 inch mounds when in bloom!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Astilbe are usually a shade garden beauty and hide shyly beneath the canopy, but Dark Side of the Moon can handle full sun and partial shade to keep that intense coloration! In hotter climates, provide some afternoon shade to full shade (you will lose out on the most saturated color in less sun). Plant these herbaceous perennials in enriched, well-drained soil that has regular moisture access and a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch. Prune mounds down to the ground in the very early spring before they start to grow.
- Full Sun, Partial Sun/Shade & Full Shade
- Enriched Well-Drained Soil Is Best
- Moderate Yet Regular Moisture
- Prune Back Early Spring
- Deer Seldom Bother These Perennials
Eclipse other plants in your garden with this dark and brooding Dark Side of the Moon Astilbe will layer in that much-needed drama to your landscapes! Order your own easy-to-grow and showy perennials today from Nature Hills!
