Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 4-8
A slow grower that is perfect for small spaces, the Cream Ball False Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Cream Ball') forms a round feathery mass of gray-green with blonde highlights all over! This evergreen is a perfect foil for darker green conifers and maroon-leaved perennials.
Growing just 1 - 2 feet in height and width, the globe form is dense and slower growing to make it easy for you to maintain its naturally round shape without any fussing or hard work! The fine-textured thread-like foliage and branching grow into a compact creamy form!
False Cypress is heat and cold-tolerant throughout USDA planting zones 4 to 8 where these evergreen shrubs grow best!
Landscape Application:
Sometimes you want a plant to grow very quickly. You want it to shield a view or cover an eyesore fast. You might want it to fill in an empty spot in your border, like, yesterday! But then, there are those times when you don't want a fast grower. You want a plant that will look the same next year as the day you planted it. You want to know exactly what you're getting right now!
Maybe you have a Rock or Zen garden that has a specific place that needs to be filled and there isn't room for a big plant. Maybe you're one of the millions of people who are enjoying the current "small garden" movement! Add texture and accent color to the landscape, especially in the winter!
If any of the above fits you, then Cream Ball False Cypress is your perfect plant. With its size, you can fit it exactly where you want it and know that it won't be gangly and out of bounds next year - or the year after - or really ever! The light color brightens every garden situation, Cream Ball False Cypress is ideal for large planters and as showy specimens without taking up tons of space!

#ProPlantTips for Care
False Cypress are full sun shrubs in most climates, but you will prevent winter burn by protecting these from drying northern winter winds, and they can be vulnerable to sun-scald in hot climates. So choose an afternoon shade location and water your plants very well before winter.
Plant in a location that is well-drained and has moderate moisture access and Mulch the ground well year-round. Rarely in need of a trim, False Cypress can be sheared lightly in the spring, and you should remove any winter dieback at this time.
- Full Sun & Partial Shade/Afternoon Shade
- Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate Moisture Needs
- Prune If Needed In Spring
- Relatively Deer Resistant
Compact, round, and bright, the Cream Ball False Cypress has the form, color, and size to add that wow factor you are looking for right now! Order yours soon at NatureHills.com!
