What could be better than an easy-to-grow tree that looks beautiful in spring, summer and fall, and give you loads of delicious fruit? When you invest in an Ozark Premier Japanese Plum (Prunus salicina 'Ozark Premier'), that is exactly what you will have.

Early in the spring, your Ozark Premier Japanese Plum will be completely covered with clusters of brilliant white blossoms. You will enjoy viewing them as much as the bees will love pollinating them.

The Ozark Premier Japanese Plum produces large, burgundy-to-purple fruit with golden flesh. It is both juicy and tart, and a semi-cling variety.

You need to plant a partner in pollination for it, and another Japanese Plum such as the Shiro or Methley would be a good choice.

Once they ripen, you can enjoy them fresh or bake them in desserts or add them to other dishes to enhance the flavor of chicken or pork. If you want to save some of that flavor for later, you can make preserves or can them for later in the year.

Your Ozark Premier Plums will be ready for harvest in late fall. And you can always count on a good crop because it is a very consistent provider!

#ProPlantTips For Care

Your Ozark Premier Japanese Plum needs full sun for the most vigorous growth and best harvest. Provide at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, favoring the drying power of the morning sun. Hardy in USDA hardiness zones 5 through 8, these trees tolerate a wide range of conditions.

It prefers rich loam, but sandy soil will do and well-drained soil. You might want to mulch it with compost, manure, leaves, or grass clippings to give it more of the nutrients that it needs to produce its best crop.

For best results, fertilize your tree regularly with Dr. Earth Fruit Tree Fertilizer or a good organic, slow-release fertilizer. Add Nature Hills Root Booster while planting for a life-long symbiotic relationship with the tiny feeder roots.

Provide ample water for your young tree while it becomes established, not allowing it to dry out between waterings. Then reduce your watering to moderate, yet consistent moisture during the heat of summer and when fruiting. While drought-tolerant, it’s best to protect your investment by providing supplemental watering in times of need.

Prune to keep an open canopy so that both sunlight and airflow reach the interior. Head over to read more on Plum Tree Care in our Garden Blog for more Fruit Tree Planting, Fruit Tree Pruning and Plum Tree Care tips and tricks can be found!

This disease-resistant variety is very hardy and does well in high heat and drought. These smaller-sized, low-care plants are great for experienced and new gardeners alike!

Self-Fruitful but recommended pollinator partners:  Shiro or Methley
