At first when we received it we weren't sure if our tree will survive

At first when we received it we weren't sure if our tree will survive. We only saw a tall branch with a few scatter leaves. We planted and now is full of leaves and little branches growing through.

I'm so excited to see it grow everyday.

Kwanzan cherries can look pretty bare when they arrive, so it makes sense you had some doubts early on. Watching those new branches fill in is a good sign the roots are settling in well. Come spring, you should be in for a real show when the double-pink blooms open up. Thanks for sharing the update, Laura.

Shipped quickly and nice tree.

So far, so good! Came quickly and in good condition. Nice size. Is putting out leaves now and actually put out 2 late blooms! Looking good!

Two late blooms on arrival is a great sign that the tree settled in well. Kwanzans are vigorous once they get going, and you should see a full flush of those deep pink double flowers next spring. Thanks for the update, Judith, and enjoy the show ahead!

Kwanzan cherries are such a rewarding tree to get established, and it sounds like yours are off to a solid start. Thanks for letting us know they arrived in good condition and are settling in well. Give them a season or two and those blooms will really put on a show.

Of the 4 kwanzan tree I bought

Of the 4 kwanzan tree I bought, one came with no leaves and even after about 2 months in the ground shows no signs of life. I’ve even bought the 1 year glow and grow guarantee by paying additional cost. However, even after 2-3 emails, not a single response. Very disappointed with customer service (even with purchase of extra warranty). No way to call them and they don’t respond to emails to their support team.

Dead Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Tree

I received the Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Tree and planted and it never thrived and buds are brown. Tried calling and never got through to talks to somebody. Emailed and never got an answer back except that it was received and acknowledge and will answer back. First timed ordering here. I ordered from Fast Growing Trees and Starks and never had a problem. All the trees I ordered from them are alive and thriving in my backyard.

Arrived looking healthy

Arrived looking healthy, with buds all over it. Planted it yesterday, after the last (hopefully)16 degree night. Everything I buy from Nature Hills arrives most impressively. Will not buy from anyone else.

Beautiful, But Larger than Described

Fantastic looking flowers, but my 2 are at least 40 feet tall and similar spread. I just love them, and would plant another 1 or 2 if I had the room in my yard. I planted them in honor of my late parents; my Mother mention they were her favorite cherry tree around Washington. The tags on the tree also said they would only grow about half their size. I got a pleasant surprise with mine.

Dear t,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the touching story behind your cherry trees. It’s wonderful to hear how beautifully they have grown and that they bring such meaningful memories of your mother to your yard. While the tag size estimates aim to give a general idea, mature trees can sometimes surpass expected height and spread depending on growing conditions—but what a lovely surprise to have such grand trees flourishing!

If you ever decide to add more to your garden but are limited by space, we’d be happy to recommend more compact varieties that still offer stunning blooms with a bit more manageable stature. Feel free to reach out anytime for personalized plant suggestions or care tips to keep your trees thriving.

Wishing you happy planting,

Frequently Asked Questions

Do kwanzan cherry trees produce fruit?

  • No, Kwanzan cherry trees do not produce fruit as they are a fruitless cultivar. The double pink blooms are sterile and focus all their energy on the spectacular floral display rather than fruit production. This makes them ideal for ornamental landscaping without messy fruit cleanup.

What planting zones is the Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Tree hardy in?

  • The Kwanzan Flowering Cherry is hardy in USDA zones 5-9. This adaptable tree tolerates both cold winters and warmer climates better than most double-flowering cherry varieties. Shop at Nature Hills for healthy, nursery-grown specimens.

What type of soil does the Kwanzan Flowering Cherry prefer?

  • Kwanzan Flowering Cherry trees adapt to a wide range of soil types and conditions. They perform best in well-draining soil but tolerate various pH levels and soil compositions. Avoid waterlogged areas and ensure good drainage for optimal growth and bloom production.

What is the growth rate of the Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Tree?

  • Kwanzan Flowering Cherry trees have a moderate growth rate, typically adding 1-2 feet per year once established. These hardy trees reach 20-25 feet tall and wide at maturity. Plant in full sun with well-draining soil for optimal growth and that spectacular spring bloom display.

Is the Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Tree deer resistant?

  • Kwanzan Flowering Cherry Trees are not considered deer resistant and may be browsed by deer, especially when other food sources are scarce. The showy pink blooms and tender foliage can attract deer to your landscape. Consider fencing or deer repellent if deer pressure is high in your area.
