Giant presence and cool hues, Krossa Regal Hosta (Hosta x 'Krossa Regal') is a standout addition! Huge grey-greenish-blue leaves grow upright and vase-shaped, standing tall among the shade and dappled sun! They'll perform beautifully, although they will take some time to develop into their full glory.

Summer brings trumpet-shaped pale lavender flowers borne on 5-foot tall flower scapes! Easily adding height, drama, and pollinators and Hummingbirds to your garden! The smooth, glaucous, and evenly veined foliage is soothing and handsome anywhere!

Try the leaves and flowers in cut flower arrangements as a spectacular filler. Even a single leaf makes an elegant statement on a modern tablescape. Very versatile and cold-hardy throughout USDA growing zones from 3 up to hot and humid zones 8. These are easy to grow for even the most novice gardener!

Planting and Application:

Impressively sized and shaped Krossa Regal creates amazing specimens and focal points! Plant in your favorite urn or highlight it in a bermed planting to raise it higher! Or, plant a specimen in a large container to baby on your balcony. Use as groundcover between larger shade plants, as edging along garden edges, and as skirting around larger shrubs and trees where Hosta can bask in their shade.

Accent any structure, seating area, or a sculptural curved row or skirting of these hefty plants around the base. Pair Hosta with Hardy Ferns, Astilbe, Bleeding Hearts, and Heucheras. Choose your favorites from our vast collection of shade perennials and turn a dreary corner into a fabulous feature. Hostas require little care in shady positions, in the ground, in large planters, or in covered patio pots. This popular landscape plant is a great choice for both beginners and experienced gardeners!

Shade gardens, and shaded Moon Gardens gain the benefit of this silvery foliage ornamental. Plant in perennial beds and mixed gardens so the foliage really stands out! Groupings and rows of these sturdy leaves define edges. Pollinator gardens and wilderness plantings, Hostas like these light up your Perennial gardens, shaded pathways, and border gardens.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

These are easy-to-care-for herbaceous perennials that do best in part sun, Krossa Regal Hostas prefers afternoon shade to full shade in hotter climates. Moist to average soil that doesn't dry out for long is preferable. Tolerant of any soil type, just be sure it's well-drained. Juglone, pollution and salt-tolerant, Krossa is also deer and rabbit resistant! Preferring a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. A generous 3-4 inch thick layer of mulch chips helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill. The thick leaves resist slug damage quite well, just be sure to remove debris each winter to deter slugs and other pests from having a place to hide. Remove all foliage in the fall after the frost has killed back the tops. Divide the mounds every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Hostas need full sun or shade?

Hosta does best in full sun in cooler climates but does appreciate afternoon protection from the worst of the summer sun, especially in the hottest of their growing zone range. In the hottest climates, Hosta like partial shade or dappled shade, and some varieties will do great in full shade.

Where do Hostas grow best?

Hosta plants love enriched, well-drained soil that is moderately yet consistently moist throughout the growing season. They appreciate mulched garden beds.

Do Hostas come back every year? Are Hostas a perennial plant?

With vigorous carefree growth, Hostas are herbaceous perennial plants that will return year after year with little maintenance.

What do you do with Hostas in the fall? What do you do with Hostas in the winter?

Hosta leaves will die back after frost but the crowns and roots remain intact and dormant until next spring. Prune back the leaves once they turn brown in the autumn and remove them from the plant's area. For winter protection, add a layer of compost or mulch over the crowns to protect them from the chill.

Do Hosta attract hummingbirds or pollinators?

Hostas are loved by pollinators and hummingbirds! All walks of beneficial pollinators will show up to sip their nectar.
