Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

The improved form of the hardy native Little Bluestem Grass, Prairie Blues Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium 'Prairie Blues') will knock your socks off! Already one of the most prevalent native grasses in the eastern United States this new cultivar displays consistent grey-blue, ribbon-like foliage that takes on hues of orange and red as the season transitions to autumn!

This warm-season grass may take its sweet time getting going in the spring, but watch out once the weather warms up! The sturdy, narrow stems with an upright habit of Prairie Blues thrives in parched areas! This selection is a great choice if you are looking to restore an eroded site, or for a plant that will grow in hot, dry areas where other plants have a hard time surviving!

Prairie Blues is deer resistant and attracts birds that like to shelter in grasses and feast on the seeds! Prairie Blues is a must-have for any sun garden! The columnar growth reaches 3-4 feet in height when in bloom, but only takes up 15-24 inches of space!

Planting and Application:

Ornamental Grasses play an important role in garden design. Hardy backdrops, structure, and the 'bones' of the landscape, Grasses also add motion, texture, and winter interest anywhere in the sun! And we mean anywhere - Growing throughout USDA growing zones 4 to 10!

The great features of Prairie Blues are its blue-green foliage, and its incredible fall color, which is a great addition to any design! Melding into formal and informal garden plans, Rock Gardens, small-space gardens and even container gardens beautifully!

  • Grey Blue Foliage in Summer
  • Upright & Columnar Growth
  • Highly Adaptable Warm-Season Grass
  • Foliage Turns Orange-Red in Autumn
  • Screening, Backdrops, En Masse, Containers & Sun Gardens

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Little Bluestem Prairie Blues is a vigorous, long-lived native selection. Because of the ease of care, drought tolerance, winter beauty, and the way it adjusts to various soils and climates, the combination makes it a very hardy plant indeed! Little Bluestem does best in well-drained soil with full sun. You don't have to pamper this pretty grass because it does well in almost any well-drained soil. Minimal moisture is needed once established. It does well when cut back heavily in late winter or early spring and appreciates being divided every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.

  • Loves Sun, Heat, and Dry Soil
  • Average to Low Moisture & Well-Drained Soil
  • Very Low Maintenance
  • Prune Early Spring
  • Very Heat & Cold Hardy & Drought-Tolerant
