Where to Plant

• Sunlight: Give this Sedum full sun, meaning at least 6 hours of direct exposure each day to maintain its tight, rounded habit. If planted in too much shade, the stems will stretch toward the light, becoming leggy and eventually flopping open in the center.
• Soil: Sharp drainage is non-negotiable for this plant because the succulent roots will rot quickly in soggy conditions. If you have heavy clay soil, mix in plenty of gravel or opt for a raised bed to ensure water drains away rapidly from the crown.

Watering Requirements

During the first season, water deeply once a week to help the roots establish, but always allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. Once established, this plant is incredibly drought-tolerant and generally subsists on rainfall alone. If you water too frequently or keep the soil constantly moist, you risk root rot and mushy stems.

Pruning Tips

This plant blooms on new wood, so the best time to prune is in early spring just before green growth begins to push up from the base. Simply cut the old, dried stems back to the ground to clear the way for fresh foliage and flowers.
