Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Set your garden ablaze with fall color with the First Editions® Autumn Inferno® Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster 'Bronfire' PP30,493). Very few plants compare when it comes to this one's intense autumn display!

These beautiful shrubs are a naturally occurring hybrid with smaller dark green leaves, showy red fruit, and excellent orange-red fall color. Plant this sophisticated choice front and center in high-profile areas. During spring and summer, the Autumn Inferno® Cotoneaster shines with deep green glossy leaves. It grows in an elegant upright form with lush foliage.

But the Autumn Inferno® Cotoneaster doesn't just provide dazzling foliage. It also produces pink and white flowers during the late spring. These charming flowers add springtime interest and boost your local ecosystem. Although small, their nectar invites Hummingbirds and bees to your landscape.

The inferno kicks into high gear when cool autumn temperatures arrive as the attractive foliage transforms into vibrant oranges and reds. While it's going through its fall color change, this foliage holds onto some of its green, creating a ravishing multi-dimensional look.

Autumn Inferno® is also admired for its bright scarlet berries that appear during fall and last into winter until the birds take them. When fruiting, this shrub looks like it's decorated for the holidays. Add exceptional interest and beauty while attracting your local birds that feast on the bright fruit. You'll feel great about this choice!

Planting and Application:

If you want a hedge or specimen shrub, Autumn Inferno® delivers fiery passion. This plant is a landscape designer's dream come true!

Bring structure to your garden design...the easy way. Autumn Inferno® looks incredible, grown as a natural specimen plant or formal trimmed hedge. They reach a perfect height for modern privacy. Add a row behind a hammock stand to create a marvelous getaway from the stress and hassle of urban living.

Why settle for a boring hedge? Get Autumn Inferno® Cotoneaster for a low-privacy hedge that will attract the right kind of attention as it transforms from season to season. Add color in front of existing evergreen hedges with their help.

Create a solid hedge by planting them three feet apart, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. Or, create a unique garden feature with a series of individual plants placed further apart at regular intervals. Simply increase the spacing between them past seven feet apart.

Flank either side of the entry to an outdoor entertainment area with these living columns of "fire". Guests will always remember this high-concept experience at your place. Use them to enhance the middle zone of your mixed borders. Or, use it as a dynamic backdrop to Butterfly Gardens and Rock Gardens.

Because they'll do well in either full sun or partial shade, why not consider them for wildlife borders? Repeat their use at the edge of the woodlands for a dramatic fall color display!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

How can you keep your Autumn Inferno® Cotoneaster happy and healthy? Give them at least four hours of sunlight a day for good color, flowering and berry production. Cotoneaster roots hate wet feet and won't tolerate standing water. It prefers very well-drained, low-moisture soil. After it's established, this plant is quite drought tolerant.

Give water during extended drought and apply a three-inch layer of mulch, pulling it back away from the stems. Carefully water during its first year to help establish a strong root system. Use Nature Hills Root Booster while planting to help this process, and support the plant over its entire life. Prune after flowering to keep your shrub to size and keep the interior open for air and sunlight penetration.

  • Grows in Full Sun or Partial Shade
  • Widely Adaptable - Any Well-Drained Soils
  • Moderate Moisture Needs -Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Easily Pruned To Size
  • Drought Tolerant Once Established
