Want a non-invasive version of the classic landscape hedge shrub? Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Golden Ticket® Privet PP27,301 (Ligustrum x vicaryi 'NCLX1') is the very first sterile, non-invasive Privet. It doesn't have any of the Privet's bad qualities, but all of them are good ones!

The beautiful foliage is glossy and thick. It starts the growing season bright yellow and ages to gentle chartreuse. The white sprays of spring flowers add to the shrub's beauty and feed plenty of bees and butterflies! You will enjoy the bloom as they are wonderfully fragrant too!

Golden Ticket® by Proven Winners® ColorChoice® forms dense, leafy walls and creates a lot of privacy very quickly. Unfortunately, they also can be invasive, making a nuisance of themselves in your yard and naturalized areas when they escape their bounds. Nature Hills employs Plant Sentry™ to protect ecosystems and native habitats by following all state and federal regulations that stop the shipment of potentially invasive plants into sensitive areas.

Planting and Application:

Privet has been used for a long time to block off views of air conditioners and other eyesores around the home! They would make a great accent shrub as well as in bright green borders, privacy screens, and hedges. This is a great plant to use for screening. Imagine a pretty, living green wall around your pool deck or outdoor dining room.

The color combo of this deciduous Privet makes it like a beacon among the evergreens in your foundation and border plantings. Left to grow naturally, these tidy and fluffy chartreuse shrubs become brilliant privacy shrubs that provide year-round screening!

Create outdoor garden room walls that wrap you in bright and colorful greenery, reduce noise, block wind, and provide high, property division! Screen off your dining or poolside seating areas, or encircle your patio with lush seclusion!

Mix these 4-6 foot tall shrubs with the 8-10 foot tall Golden Vicary Privet for a layered effect in the garden. Both of these golden plants shining in the sun! Not only does the Golden Ticket® Privet look great in your landscape, but the strong stems and architectural structure of the leaves also make it a great filler in cut flower bouquets.

  • Bright Golden-Chartreuse Foliage
  • Pleasantly Fragrant White Flower Sprays
  • Sterile-Version of the Great Privet Hedge
  • Glossy & Compact
  • Great for Privacy, Windbreaks & Hedges & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

This Privet does well in either sun or part shade, but the color will be better the more sun it has. It will tend toward darker greens in shadier situations. Provide a well-drained site with regular moisture access throughout the year. Water deeply and regularly after its initial planting, but once it is established, Privet shrubs become drought-resistant.

Plant with Nature Hills Root Booster for lifelong symbiotic support, and regular moisture access during that first year. A spring application of fertilizer keeps your shrubs growing green! Provide a 3-4 inch deep top-dressing of arborist mulch to hold moisture, insulate the roots, reduce weed competition, and add a finishing touch to your garden design!

Privet doesn't need any heavy pruning to maintain its beautiful vase-like shape but can handle it well if a tighter hedge is desired. Leave these shrubs to grow naturally to enjoy the blooms and fruit for your wildlife. If you want all this, then choose to renewal prune every 3-5 years. Remove the older, fatter branches out at the main trunk or from the root zone.

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Any Well-Drained Soil
  • Moderate Moisture For Best Results & Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune After Flowering
  • Pest, Saline/Coastal & Disease-Tolerant

You really can't go wrong adding these bright shrubs to your landscape! Order your Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Golden Ticket® Privet with confidence today at Nature Hills Nursery and enjoy having your new landscape delivered to your door!

Great privacy screen

These are truly beautiful shrubs that grow fast when established with regular watering. They are not fussy. The flowers, although not overly showy, have a fragrance that might not appeal to everyone. In warmer climates the leaves may hang on all winter, but in cold temperatures they will fall off and put out new leaves in the spring. Deer will eat these plants. At least they do in our area. Only after planting them behind a fence did they begin to thrive. I personally recommend these privets.

Dear Barb,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful and detailed review of the Proven Winners® Golden Ticket® Privet. We’re delighted to hear how well these shrubs are thriving for you and appreciate your insights on their growth habits and fragrance. Your tip about planting them behind a fence to protect from deer is especially helpful for other gardeners dealing with similar challenges.

If you ever want to explore ways to enhance their growth or protect your privacy screen further, we’d be happy to recommend deer-resistant companion plants or natural deterrents. Also, regular watering is indeed key for a strong establishment, and your success story makes that clear!

We truly value your recommendation and your closeness to your garden’s needs—it inspires others and strengthens our plant community here.

Bloom on,
