Butterfly bushes

When I first got the box and opened it, they were tough but now they look great

Bare-root and plug plants can look pretty rough right out of the shipping box, so it's great to hear yours bounced back and are looking great now. Butterfly bushes are tough once they settle in, and Perfecta Trifecta will really hit its stride as the season goes on. Thanks for the update, Karen!

Trifecta butterfly bush

Plant arrived in great condition and had a couple of blooms on it already. It's thriving even in this heatwave we are having in Ohio. It's blooming but I'm anticipating to see if it is a variated color bush like the ad said.

Butterfly bush are tough plants once they settle in, so it's a good sign yours hit the ground running through an Ohio heatwave. The variegated color mix really does show best as the plant matures and puts on more growth, so keep watching those new blooms. Thanks for sharing the update, Kathy. We hope the color display lives up to the anticipation! The Nature Hills Team

Dissatisfied with customer service

I ordered two bushes. The first one arrived with half the top soil spilled into the box. It looked small, about a foot and a half tall. But because it looked healthy I replaced the soil and planted it in a 20" pot. The second one arrived the next day and was in pretty good shape. This one was about 3 feet tall and I planted it in another 20" pot.

I understand that the content in the shipping can become disturbed, but I ordered 2 bushes expecting them to be of the same size and age. They obviously were not. Because of their guarantee I sent an email through their site (the same one requesting this review) requesting a replacement. This was over 2 weeks ago and I still haven't seen a reply to my email or the 3 follow-ups i sent.

Blooming well

Blooming well. Very happy.

Butterfly bushes can take a little time to settle in, so it's great to hear the Perfecta Trifecta is already putting on a show for you. Once it gets a full season of roots down, you'll likely see even more blooms. Thanks for sharing the update, Lori. The Nature Hills Team

Plants are growing well and growing great.

Plant arrived in excellent condition. I planted it right and it is growing well. Can’t wait to see it when it blooms. This is just one of several plants I have purchased from Nature Hills and every one has done well. Glad I found them.

Hearing that every plant you've ordered has done well means a lot, and the Perfecta Trifecta is a rewarding one to watch as it settles in. Butterfly bushes tend to really hit their stride in the second season once the roots are fully established, so the blooms should be even better next year. Thanks for sticking with us, Robert.

I bought the trifecta with two other butterfly bushes

I bought the trifecta with two other butterfly bushes, and all were healthy. Two, including the trifecta were already in bloom when planted. Very happy with the plants and nursery.

Butterfly bushes already in bloom at planting time is a great sign of how well they were rooted before shipping. Glad the whole trio arrived healthy and hit the ground running. The Trifecta in particular puts on quite a show once it gets established, so you have a lot to look forward to. Thanks for sharing, Douglas, and enjoy the butterflies!

The plants arrived healthy and well packaged. Within a week they started blooming and already are attracting butterflies. Beautiful flowers, seamless purchase.

Butterflies showing up within the first week is a good sign the plants settled in quickly. Perfecta Trifecta is a strong bloomer and should keep putting on color well into fall, so you have a lot of season left to enjoy it. Thanks for the kind words, Karl. We hope your garden stays busy with visitors all summer.

Butterfly Bushes 😊

The bushes were delivered in perfect packaging. They are in our flower bed blooming. Thank you. 😊

Blooming already in the flower bed is about the best start a butterfly bush can have. The Perfecta Trifecta is a real pollinator magnet once it gets going, so keep an eye out for the visitors that will follow. Thanks for letting us know it arrived in good shape, GeorgeAnn, and happy growing!

Replacement

One of my three bushes didn’t arrive. It took me a little while to get in touch because spring is busy for a nursery, but once I did they replaced it no problem.

Spring really is the hardest time to get through to anyone in the plant world, so it's good to hear the team came through once you connected. Glad the replacement sorted things out, and we hope all three Perfecta Trifectas put on a great show for you this season. Thanks for sticking with it and sharing the experience, Maegan.

They're growing

They're growing...no flowers yet, but the plants are healthy and growing.

Healthy and growing is exactly where you want to be at this stage. Butterfly bushes tend to put their energy into establishing roots first, so once they settle in you should see blooms come on strong. Thanks for the update, Mendi, we hope the flowers put on a great show for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do butterfly bushes bloom?

  • Butterfly bushes typically bloom from early summer through the first frost, providing 4-5 months of continuous color. The Perfecta Trifecta blooms all summer long with fragrant flower spikes in three colors. Deadheading spent blooms encourages even more flowers throughout the season.

How to overwinter a butterfly bush?

  • Butterfly bushes are hardy perennials that die back to the ground in cold climates but return from their roots in spring. Cut stems to 6-12 inches after the first hard frost and apply 2-3 inches of mulch around the base. Shop reliable varieties like the Perfecta Trifecta at naturehills.com.

What is the plant's typical mature size?

  • The Perfecta Trifecta Butterfly Bush forms a compact, tidy shrub that stays well-behaved without becoming overgrown or shaggy. This tri-color variety maintains an airy yet dense form when the three plants grow together. Plan for adequate spacing since it won't spread aggressively like traditional butterfly bushes.

When do i prune my butterfly bush?

  • Prune butterfly bushes in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Cut back stems to 12-18 inches from the ground to maintain the compact, tidy form. This encourages vigorous new growth and abundant blooms throughout the summer season.

How often should I water my newly planted Perfecta Trifecta Butterfly Bush?

  • Water newly planted Perfecta Trifecta Butterfly Bush deeply 2-3 times per week for the first month. Once established, these hardy shrubs are quite drought tolerant and need watering only during extended dry periods. Check soil moisture by inserting your finger 2 inches down.

Is the Perfecta Trifecta Butterfly Bush deer resistant?

  • Butterfly bushes are generally deer resistant due to their aromatic foliage and slightly fuzzy leaves that deer typically avoid. The Perfecta Trifecta's fragrant soft foliage makes it an excellent choice for gardens where deer browsing is a concern.
