Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Need a touchably soft yellow groundcover? The Wooly Yarrow (Achillea tomentosa) is the classic dwarf version of a formidable perennial! It forms a tight, low-growing mat of fuzzy olive-green foliage. It has a texture that begs to be touched. Don't be surprised to find people petting these plants!

This evergreen is then topped by big, flat clusters of canary-yellow flowers through the late spring and early summer. They are very showy and are quite striking against the subdued colored fuzzy leaves. Pollinators show up in droves for these native flowers, sipping the nectar or collecting pollen, sometimes until frost in some areas!

Wooly Yarrow is wonderfully cold hardy throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 8, and only grows 8-12 inches in height when in bloom! The down-covered leaves can spread to form colonies 18-24 inches wide or wider over time! The foliage can even be semi-evergreen to fully evergreen in warmer climates and mild winters.

Planting and Application:

When you have a hot, dry, sunny location in your garden (think real rock garden situation - tough soil, fast drainage, radiating heat) you have a handful of plants that will really live and thrive there. Yarrows are some of the best performers in these challenging garden situations. At the top of that list is Wooly Yarrow!

Its spreading nature means Wooly Yarrow becomes a low-maintenance mass-planting candidate! Yarrow stands up to some harsh conditions once you get them established in their first year. Plant your along sunny pathways, sidewalks, and along the street for bright yellow color all summer long!

Use Wooly Yarrow in the front of the border where it makes a pretty and unique edging plant! It works especially well with other Mediterranean-type plants - Penstemons, Lavenders, and Sages for instance. Or mix with other Yarrow plants! Your Pollinators will be happy with any mixture of these perennial plants you provide for them!

It looks fantastic cascading out of big classic Mediterranean urns. It also has a very home-spun look and works extremely well in Cottage gardens and Rock Gardens - where it has been a staple for decades! The fuzzy foliage is the perfect counterpoint to simple modern gardens, Sensory gardens, and mixed-perennial beds or planters!

  • Canary-Yellow Flowers - Spring to Summer
  • Spreading Colonizing Mounds With Ferny Fuzzy Green Foliage
  • Vital Pollinator Garden Plant
  • Rugged, Xeric Plant & Great For Fire-Wise Landscaping
  • Border or Edging, Accent Groupings, En Masse & Containers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Perennial Yarrow needs full sun to bloom and grow the best and is tolerant to hot and humid summers. It can tolerate poor soil conditions but does best in lean, dry-to-average moisture settings in very well-drained soil. Despising soggy soil and wet roots, avoid heavy clays and moist, rich, fertile soils.

Water consistently through their first year, but once established, Yarrow won't need much except during extended drought. Top the root system with a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch.

Deadhead spent flowers to encourage a rebloom. It is recommended you divide these perennials every 3-4 years in the spring and prune your mounds back each year in early spring before you see new growth. Attractive to butterflies, but pest, disease, deer and rabbit resistant, Yarrow are rugged little garden gems with a carefree attitude!

  • Performs Beautifully in Heat & Full Sun
  • Drought Tolerant & Tolerates Dry Rocky Soil
  • Needs Well-Drained Sites
  • Moderate to Low Moisture Needs Once Established
  • Prune Early Spring
  • Rabbits & Deer Resist This Cultivar

This is a great perennial that isn't used enough in today's landscapes! Reduce water usage, feed pollinators, and reduce your workload with the hardy little native Wooly Yarrow! Try some in your garden today from NatureHills.com!
