Yes, you can have it all! Celebrate the magic of the growing season with an outdoor entertainment area draped in a showy, native Wisteria.
Considered a natural dwarf, Amethyst Falls Wisteria (Wisteria frutescens 'Amethyst Falls') develops six-inch long racemes of light lavender and purple blooms. And you won't have long to wait, as the vine starts producing flowers at a young age.
It blooms each year on new wood, so just trim it down to control size. Overall, this American Wisteria stays petite...growing only a third of the size of Asian Wisteria floribunda.
Versatility makes this an exceptional selection to use as a climbing vine, or train it into a single trunk tree with pruning. It can also be planted as a groundcover that won't take over a small garden.
Refined Amethyst Falls Wisteria has smaller leaves and blooms than the super-showy Chinese Wisteria and Japanese Wisteria species. This non-invasive selection is fine to be grown near other trees and shrubs.
You'll fall in love with the scent and sight of these lovely deciduous vines. Each lightly fragrant flower is a masterpiece, and becomes a clarion call for local butterflies and hummingbirds.
These intricate flowers delight you and your guests in early summer. Trim the blooms for cut flower arrangements inside or float them in shallow bowls along your outdoor dining table.
It's easy to encourage rebloom later in the season. Why not gift your local retirement villa a box of the blooms to use on their residents' lunch tables?
This giving plant even provides a host for several kinds of skipper butterflies. Could you turn your suburban lot into an enchanting habitat with help from Nature Hills?
Revel in the luxurious charm of this special native flowering vine. Hurry to order, as we will sell out quickly...people just like you love Amethyst Falls Wisteria, and so will you!
How to Use Amethyst Falls Wisteria in the Landscape
This vine will need a sturdy support to climb. Design the perfect arbor or pergola to enjoy with family and friends; or simply install a wide trellis to become a living screen.
Wisteria vines can be used as a vertical accent, yet remains slim enough to fit in a narrow footprint. Live large in an outdoor room bounded by two trellises set in an L-shape to hide the neighborhood.
Train a pair of Amethyst Falls Wisteria at either end of a special garden gate. The growth twines clockwise, and you'll enjoy giving it a helping hand in mindful communion with your vines.
Treat yourself each time you walk underneath their dripping display of lavender blooms. Include seating nearby to enjoy their fragrance.
People can use them on rented balconies, as well. Keep them in an oversize planter with an obelisk sunk into the center; or select a long planter that has a cunning garden seat (or welcome storage) built-in.
At rented spaces, ensure your vine receives plenty of air circulation. Place it where it can grow into its full height and spread.
Amethyst Falls Wisteria may grow 10 feet or more in a single year. You can certainly keep it much smaller with biyearly pruning.
Invest in a sharp pair of garden shears to get the best performance from your Amethyst Falls. Pruning is part and parcel of growing gorgeous Wisterias...read more in the #ProPlantTips section.
On a large property, try this as an eye-catching flowering groundcover. Plant vines eight feet apart on center, and train them to spread out to hide rock piles or to glorify a slope.
This trick even works on chain link fences and old TV antennas. Turn the eyesore into an asset with these alluring blooms.
#ProPlantTips for Care
Plant in full sun or partial shade, where it will receive at least four hours of sunlight a day. They require well-drained soil that won't retain water for very long after rain or watering.
Although they will tolerate periodic drought, their root system needs to become established first. You'll want to use Nature Hills Root Booster during planting for life-long support of the tiny feeder roots.
Give young vines regular weekly watering...and protect them during high heat periods with water as needed. Mulch to cut down on surface evaporation, but don't let it touch the stems.
Fertilize regularly during the growing season with a general purpose fertilizer. Prune this plant in late winter to promote vigorous new growth.
Get the best flowering display with pruning before this year's growth begins. Count four buds on last year's growth, and trim your vine just above the fourth bud.
Prune again just after the first round of spring blooms are fading. Deadheading will encourage a second, smaller flush of flowers.
Enjoy the special native Amethyst Falls Wisteria in your personal paradise starting this season. The butterflies will appreciate your thoughtfulness, too!
