Whether you're an experienced gardener or a beginner, Sugar Plum Gladiolus bulbs are easy to grow, rewarding you with spectacular blooms all summer long.

The wands stand tall among a fringe of vertical, sword-like green foliage and form tidy clumps just 6-8 inches wide. These grow from corms that are hardy in the ground all year round in USDA growing zones 8 and up, but cooler climates need to treat Glads like Canna or Calla Lily, lifting the bulbs in the fall and storing them for the winter.

Landscape Application:

Gladiolus are versatile and works beautifully in a variety of garden designs. Here's how to make the most of these striking flowers:

Borders and Beds: Add vertical interest to your flowerbeds and borders with their tall, dramatic spires.

Cutting Gardens: Grow your own fresh-cut bouquets—Gladiolus are a florist's favorite for their long vase life.

Focal Points: Plant in clusters to create eye-catching focal points in your garden.

Container Gardens: Use Sugar Plum Gladiolus in large pots for a pop of color on patios and balconies.

Mixed Plantings: Pair them with other summer blooms like dahlias, zinnias, or cosmos for a layered, dynamic display.

Pollinators and Hummingbirds: Birds and bees will sip nectar from these hot pinkish-purple plum beauties!

Floral Arrangements: Fantastic tall elements for floral design and bouquets, the tall spires stand out with their showy, long-lasting flowers.

Plant extra corms so you don't feel you are depriving your pollinators when you steal a few stems for luscious bouquets indoors!

#ProPlantTips For Planting & Care:

Gladiolus are strongest and have the best flowering display in full sun in cooler growing zones but appreciate afternoon shade in hot growing zones. Any well-drained soil location works great. These bulbs do appreciate moderate yet regular moisture access and mulched beds.

Plant these corms in the spring about 6-8 inches deep. Groupings and rows have the biggest effect and impact on your garden, so plant your corms pointy side up about 5-6 inches apart.

Stake your flower wands unless you plant your Glads in a location protected from the wind. Deadhead as soon as the last flower fades but keep the greenery to make food for the bulb until they turn yellow.

In zones 1 through 7, lift your corms as you would Canna or Dahlias, and store them for the winter in a cool, dry location.

  • Full Sun & Afternoon Shade In Hot Climates
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Organic Well-Drained Soil
  • Deadhead After Blooms Fade & Prune or Dig in Fall
  • Spring-Planted Summer-Flowering Corm
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant
