Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements

Growing Zones 8 - 10
Prepare to be spellbound! The magical Spellbound Camellia bush (Camellia japonica 'Spellbound') is an absolutely gorgeous flowering ornamental shrub featuring deep coral-pink blooms that are reminiscent of Rugosa Roses! And they're surprisingly just as fragrant too! The ruffled semi-double layer of anemone-form petals show off their golden centers where bees will be found happily rummaging through for pollen and nectar!
Spellbound is a broad-leaved evergreen shrub with glossy pointed leaves that grow into a densely packed, well-rounded bush! Blooming when southern gardens need it most, the flowers arrive in the late winter to early spring months, feeding early emerging butterflies and hummingbirds gearing up to migrate north!
Camellia are hardy throughout USDA growing zones 8 to 10 and are easy-to-grow broadleaved evergreens reaching about 6 - 8 feet in height and 5 - 7 feet in width. Not the fastest growing, Camellias are in it for the long haul and that just means less maintenance for you!
Planting and Application:
Spellbound Camellia lights up the mixed shrub hedge and shaded woodland border garden with their enchantingly fragrant deep pink blooms. The glossy evergreen foliage provides year-round screening and privacy too! Go ahead and envelop your yard in scented tranquility!
With a bit of pruning for size, these ornamental flowering shrubs will become your new foundation hedge! Or let them grow into their natural form without pruning and create outdoor garden rooms where you can relax without prying eyes in the shade!
Perfect specimens for anchoring garden beds, softening the corner of your home or an outbuilding, or standing as a unique winter flowering specimen front and center in your front yard landscaping, Spellbound will enchant everyone who sees it!
With a little effort and pruning, you can transform it into a lovely small accent tree with a multi-stemmed trunk and rounded canopy! Snip a few blossoms for a bouquet or float a few of these lovely blooms in a bubble bowl to perfume your indoor spaces too!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Camellias are not difficult to grow! Preferring rich, acidic soils and soils that are gorged with enriched compost and rich humus. For best results, provide afternoon shade or dappled partial sun locations, but these flowering shrubs will grow in full shade (but you'll see fewer blossoms). Provide regular moisture, and supplemental moisture during drought to keep them looking their best. Add a 3-4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch, especially for younger plants to provide root shading and keep them cool as a cucumber! Any pruning for size control and shaping should be done after the flowers fade and new growth begins in the spring.
In areas with high deer pressure, it's recommended to spray your plant with deer repellant from day one and keep spraying according to product directions to train the deer in your area to avoid this plant entirely!
