Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Talk about resting on your Laurels, the beautiful Cherry Laurel variety Schipka Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus 'Schipkanensis') is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with gorgeous foliage and easy-going nature that hints back to its native roots here in the southern US.

Bees and butterflies adore the displays of white flowers that form bottlebrush panicles. Their fragrance gives a nod to their Rose family connections and many folks snip a few of these flowering branches for bouquets and floral arrangements indoors. Once the blooms are done in the spring, Laurel forms small dark fruit that the birds love!

Forming a refined vase shape, these shrubs can be as informal or formal as you desire with little maintenance! Laurel bushes are evergreen in USDA growing zones 6 through 9, and these broadleaf evergreens can reach a mature height and width of 6-8 feet. Making Schipka perfect for any sized garden! Plus it is fast-growing giving you lush greenery in a hurry!

Planting and Application:

Laurel hedges are an excellent addition to any landscape. The evergreen nature of Laurel hedges will give winter protection to many garden birds and small mammals. Thrushes and Blackbirds are fond of building nests inside Laurel hedges. The birds go nuts for the berries and appreciate the tasty morsels even if you don't notice them as they dangle among the branches of lush foliage.

Schipka Laurel hedges will make excellent privacy fences when grown alongside a road. The dense nature of the foliage and wood makes a natural sound barrier and screens the view. Laurel hedges are the perfect addition to any garden. Create a triple-duty screen and privacy fence by using these shrubs as backdrops that highlight your garden beds and borders! Everything else will become enhanced by the steady evergreen of these reliable shrubs!

Need a flowering specimen with color year-round, plant a Laurel on a berm in your front yard or on the corner of your home's foundation planting. Take things up a notch by training your shrub into a tree-form by removing the lower branches to expose the bottom third or half of the trunks. You'll have a multi-trunk mini tree with loads of curb appeal!

  • White Fragrant Bottlebrush Blooms
  • Glossy Evergreen Foliage
  • Neat & Tidy Vase Shape
  • Bee, Butterfly & Bird-Friendly
  • Hedges, Screens, Privacy, Sound & Wind Barriers & Backdrops

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Schipka Laurel bushes are native to America and can grow in nearly any combination of soil and sun, doing best in full sun or partial shade. Preferring more sun in cool climates, and more shade in warmer areas. Laurel thrives in slightly deep, fertile, moist, humusy, well-drained soil; tolerates poor, sandy, or clay soils. Water deeply, regularly in the first growing season to establish the root system, but once established, reduce watering frequency. Established plants can tolerate dry shade.

Laurel are easy to grow, and require almost no maintenance, aside from optional Pruning which is best performed as soon as they are finished flowering. The other reason everyone loves these underused shrubs? Deer seem to avoid them unless desperate!

  • Full Sun & Partial Shade
  • Humusy Well-Drained Soil - Even Clay
  • Moderate Moisture - Tolerates Dry Shade Once Established
  • Appreciates Mulch
  • Prune After Flowering
  • Deer Resistant
