Westcountry™ Tequila Flame Lupine – Bold Bicolor Blooms
The Westcountry™ Tequila Flame Lupine PP#23044 (Lupinus polyphyllus 'Terracotta') is a dazzling perennial with fiery orange and golden-yellow spires that stand tall against deep green foliage. A Proven Winners® selection, this eye-catching Lupine boasts large, fragrant blooms that emerge in late spring to early summer, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
A true showstopper in the garden, Tequila Flame re-blooms with deadheading, rewarding you with an extended season of stunning color. As a member of the Pea family (Fabaceae), it enriches the soil by fixing nitrogen, benefiting neighboring plants.
This perennial features deeply divided, palmate leaves with a rich green hue, adding texture and interest even when not in bloom. Upright flower spikes can reach up to 3 feet tall, forming an architectural focal point in mixed borders and cottage gardens. As temperatures cool, the foliage may recede, allowing other summer perennials to take center stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Westcountry™ Tequila Flame Lupine deer-resistant?
Yes! Lupines are naturally deer-resistant due to their alkaloid-rich foliage, making them unpalatable to most grazing animals.
How long does Westcountry™ Tequila Flame Lupine bloom?
It blooms from late spring to early summer and can rebloom in mid to late summer if deadheaded regularly.
Can I grow this Lupine in containers?
Yes! It performs well in large containers with well-draining soil and regular watering.
What type of soil does Lupine prefer?
Well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil is best. Avoid heavy clay or wet conditions, as Lupines dislike soggy roots.
Does Lupine attract pollinators?
Absolutely! Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds love the nectar-rich blooms, making this plant a fantastic choice for pollinator gardens.
How do I overwinter Lupine in colder zones?
In zones 4-9, simply cut back spent foliage in fall, apply a layer of mulch, and let it go dormant. It will return stronger in spring.
