Growing Zones 2-7
The Jackman Potentilla (Potentilla fruticosa 'Jackmanii') is a compact upright shrub with brilliant yellow flowers. Butterflies love Potentilla and the flowers that look like they're rejoicing at each of their winged visitors. These darling 5 petaled blooms will bring a smile to your face as well - flowering from late spring to frost!
This deciduous shrub has deep green leaves that make a beautiful background for the deep yellow flowers. Jackman Potentilla flowers from midsummer on to fall. Potentillas may be the longest-blooming small-space shrub with loads of cheerful flowers all summer. The bushy plants like sun and are not fussy about soil types or pH levels. They are very hardy and popular because of their long-bloom time, fluffy form, and extreme cold hardiness.
Also known as Bush Cinquefoil, these highly ornamental shrubs are hardy, tidy, and carefree. Besides blooming into late fall, it is also deer resistant! Jackman Potentilla are cold-hardy throughout the chilliest of USDA growing zones 2 to 7 and grows to a fluffy rounded 3-4 feet in height and width!
Planting and Application:
Potentilla is a perfect low-growing foundation plant, facer plant, and edging accent for those hot sunny sides of the home and garden! Use them liberally along your front walk or along the front of your house. They'll never grow out of bounds or up high enough to cover your windows. Instead, your house will sparkle with these rich flowers that resemble living sunlight.
Everyone has one of those trouble spots in the garden that is hot and dry, and nothing seems to do very well. Potentilla becomes the workhorse of your landscape and is great for xeric-scaping and fire-wise landscapes alike!
This can be used near the front of a mixed garden bed. You'll love having these small shrubs to brighten up your landscape. The compact, mounding form makes it a perfect choice as a border, low hedge, or accent piece in your garden! Cottage gardens, perennial borders, Rock Gardens, and butterfly gardens are perfect locations for these resilient shrubs!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Jackman Potentilla is adaptable to moist or dry locations. It is not particular to soil type or pH levels. This plant excels in urban conditions. They are low-maintenance native cultivars that do best in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. However, these little guys are pretty tough. They can handle a variety of soils and resist disease and insects. Once established, Jackman will tolerate very tough conditions and periods of drought. They love sunny, exposed areas and are easy to care for. A touch of fertilizer and some mulch around the plants will give your plants a great start to a colorful summer.
It is best pruned in late winter to control its size and shape. Pruning is simple and may only have to be done every other year or so until the plants have been in place for a few years or more. In late winter or early spring, simply remove the tallest and thickest stems out right to the ground leaving the thinner stems in place to flower profusely.
