This long-lived species of Foetida Rose offers vibrant, dark yellow flowers and fine-textured, fragrant foliage. The large-scale, shrubby Persian Yellow Rose (Rosa foetida persiana) makes a bold statement in the landscape! This tough Landscaping Rose shrub easily handles extreme cold and rugged conditions. Covered in brilliant blooms with up to 25 petals apiece in late spring, heirloom Persian Roses have been enjoyed since 1837!
Give them room to spread into their full glory for the best results. The gorgeous foliage looks great even when not in bloom and when they are flowering, the butterflies and bees will arrive in droves. Snip a few blossoms to bring cheer indoors for floral bouquets as well! You’ll love having the perfume lift your spirits!
Yellow flowers add cheer anywhere and these fragrant Heirloom Roses are the perfect gift plant for someone down in the dumps, or to celebrate a special occasion! Use Persian Yellow as a memorial plant to remember how a loved one lit up a room in life by adding a Rose bush that lights up the garden for years to come. Exceptionally hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 through 8, it will be an easy care and lasting gift!
Planting and Application:
Any cottage border or pollinator garden becomes brimming in clean yellow brilliance! Use a single Persian Yellow Rose specimen somewhere you want a durable flowering privacy screen. Pop one in a sunny spot to hide the neighbor's garbage cans! Add a showy row of these hard-working flowering shrubs as a backdrop for a collection of dwarf evergreen shrubs. Or use a mix of summer-flowering Spirea and Hydrangea in front to enjoy flowers all season!
Persian Yellow Roses make an exceptional hedge or barrier planting, and you'll love how the showy yellow blooms perfume your yard! On a large property, add them in a hedge to help define your property line. Add them into a windbreak with Redbud trees, Viburnum, and Red-Twigged Dogwood for a boost of color. Songbirds appreciate their dense shelter, while butterflies love the nectar-rich springtime blooms.
Add their wild beauty in mixed garden beds to support your local populations. Foundation hedges and that hell strip along the sidewalk or driveway to separate your front yard from prying eyes become a feature planting! For a solid screen, plant them five feet apart on center, measuring from the center of one to the center of the next. Wear long, thick leather gloves while working with the thorny canes.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Easy-care Heirloom Persian Yellow Rose bushes need full sun and well-drained soil. Ensure they have at least six hours of direct sun a day. Choose a location with ample air circulation and the drying powers of the morning sun. Give young plants a moderate amount of supplemental water on a schedule, if you don't get rainfall. Even after your Persian Roses get established, we do recommend watering them in extended drought to protect your landscape investment. Roses like rich, organically high soil medium to grow in and especially need a very well-drained site. Choose a slow-release, organic fertilizer for Roses, and mulch the root system well, without piling it against the crown.
Each year after the spring blooms are finished, prune out crossing branches and those growing into the interior of the plant. Prune out suckers any time of year as desired, understanding that Persian Yellow Roses have a naturally informal shape. Read all you need about pruning Roses, and about winterizing your Roses, and un-wintering Roses in spring in our #ProPlantTips Garden Blog!
