Illuminate your landscaping daily from here on out with the Paperbark Maple Tree (Acer griseum). You won't know how you ever lived without this breathtaking ornamental tree!
No need to keep looking for a tree to be the centerpiece of your landscaping because this tree is unstoppable with its noteworthy,, colorful foliage! In the summer, you will be surprised by the very petite yellow flowers that bloom and add to the ornamental features of your Paperbark Maple.
Starting with dark green leaves with a grayish-blue coloration on the underside. In the fall, the Paperbark Maple is hard to miss with its bright top coat of orange and red fall foliage with a deep reddish-green to bronze closer to the trunk of the tree.
This tree is known for its dramatic bark that curls back and stays on the tree rather than falling off to show off its cinnamon reddish-brown coloration! Cold and heat-hardy throughout USDA planting zones 5 to 8, these are very adaptable trees that are native to China.
Landscape Application:
There is so much ornamental value to this tree that makes it ideal for a specimen tree. People will fall in love with your tree and so will you! Pretty all year round, the spring, summer, and fall foliage are accented by peeling bark in the winter!
Plant groupings of Paperbark Maples in mixed tree lines or in groupings for birds and wildlife to take shelter in. Or mix with Paperbark/River Birch, Shagbark Hickory, Lacebark Elms, and London Plane Trees for dramatic winter bark texture! Or try mixing this unique tree with other Maple Trees for a pretty patchwork of colors and texture!
Casting lush shade and acting as great accent trees throughout the landscape, Paperbark Maple grows 20 - 25 feet tall and can spread 15 - 20 feet wide! That means you can plant this Maple's root system about 8 to 10 feet away from foundations, septic tanks, and pavement.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Maple trees need full sun and well-drained soil to grow their best. Moderate yet consistent moisture is necessary for new trees so they do not dry out between waterings and establish an extensive root system. A 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the roots keeps them stress-free! Prune in late spring after the sap has run to correct growth and form.
