Golden orange sweet orbs of unique goodness, the Matsumoto Persimmon Tree (Diospyros kaki 'Matsumoto Wase Fuyu') is a gorgeous ornamental fruit tree in its own right, growing 20-30 feet in height and width and fruiting at a younger age.

Later in the spring, usually after the threat of frost, delicate, four-petalled flowers draw in the pollinators! Look close, and you'll notice two colors of blooms on your tree - the creamy white blooms are female and the pink ones are male flowers, both accenting the glossy foliage that fills out the round canopy of this gorgeous tree.

By late fall, the orb-like fruits are ripe and the brilliant orange skin shines. Matsumoto fruits are larger than most Japanese Persimmon varieties, with super sweet flesh with honeyed flavor and smooth, custard-like flesh. A non-astringent type of Persimmon, these fall off the tree when ripe and ready to eat and you'll enjoy little to no tip cracking!

The Matsumoto Persimmon Tree fills out beautifully all growing season with glossy green foliage that erupts into fiery autumn hues or red and gold that match their glowing fruit! While partially self-fruitful, these trees do even better with an Oriental Persimmon pollinator. Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 9, Persimmons are resistant to heat and humidity.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Naturally resistant to many diseases, Persimmon, like all fruit trees, need the full sun to flower and fruit their best. Plant in a slightly acidic, enriched, well-drained location with regular water access. Mulch the site well with 3-4 inches of arborist bark chips, and provide a regular amount of acid-loving plant fertilizer. Easy to grow and requiring minimal pruning and care, Prune this deciduous tree after it has finished fruiting in the fall. These trees are parthenocarpic (may set seedless fruit without pollination), but all fruit trees get a pollination boost from a partner plant nearby.

  • Full Sun
  • Moist Enriched Environment
  • Needs Slightly-Acidic Well-Drained Soil
  • Prune In Fall
  • Low-Chill ~100-200 Chill Hours

The Matsumoto Persimmon Tree will delight you with big sweet orange fruit and a highly ornamental presence in your landscape and orchard! Hurry and snatch up this unique Japanese Persimmon Tree variety today from Nature Hills!
