Foxglove Care & Maintenance

Sun & Soil Requirements

  • Thrives in well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH.

Watering & Mulching

  • Keep soil evenly moist, especially during the hottest months.
  • Apply a 3-4 inch layer of mulch to help retain moisture and protect the roots.

Fertilizing

  • Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Pruning & Deadheading

  • Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering.
  • After the first flush, cut back flower stalks to basal foliage to promote new growth.
  • In fall, clean mounds before winter, trimming back in early spring before new growth emerges.

Staking & Support

  • In especially windy locations, add a stake or trellis to support the tall wands to prevent flopping.
