Little Ben Dwarf Gooseberry Bushes (Ribes uva-crispa 'Little Ben') are darling little fruiting ornamentals that produce a decent crop as early as their first year! Container gardener ready sized, these demure shrubs won't take up all the space in your garden! This is a smaller selection of the Hinnonmaki Red Gooseberry and takes all of its parents' qualities and adds powdery mildew resistance and small compact size!

Forming smaller mounding clumps of highly cold-resistant branches, Little Ben features gorgeous, colorful spring and fall foliage that, unfortunately, while it hides the small greenish flowers, the lobed green leaves dramatically set off the ripening fruit! Little Ben has a spring bloom of flowers that you probably won't notice. However, bees and butterflies certainly will, making this plant a valuable asset to your yard's wildlife in the spring as well as in the fall.

Harvest while green for a firmer texture, or wait until the fruits turn a lovely maroon-red. Like turgent see-through jewels, these are gorgeous jewels that just shine on the branches! Once fully ripe, use the juicy berries in beverages and desserts, as well as being made into preserves, chutneys, and sauces! Green fruits are often used for sweet-tart wine, pies, and preserves that hold their shape after being baked.

Planting and Application:

Dwarf Gooseberry Bush Little Ben looks great planted in groupings, along a fence, or planted as a single spotlight in your garden. But this allows landscapes of all shapes and sizes to enjoy these unique fruiting shrubs! Even container gardeners can grow fruit on porches, patios, and balconies!

Plant as facer shrubs or in rows along your home's foundation as an accent row and edible landscaping borders. Plant around your entertaining areas for a unique conversation starter! Create a border around your kitchen and herb gardens that also produces juicy, healthy berries!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Your Dwarf Gooseberry bushes will love a sunny spot in your landscape. Provide at least 6 hours of direct light a day. Plant in an enriched, well-drained location with a good layer of mulch over the soil's surface to protect the root system. It's almost thornless; these are also low-maintenance, mildew-resistant, and easy to prune when they're fully dormant in the late winter or very early spring.
