Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Frosty waves of blue and white, the Arctic Blast Hosta (Hosta 'Arctic Blast') has leaves that are frosted blue with white undersides, and the leaf margins are wavy with twisted pointed tips. Arctic Blast is a large Hosta that originated as a cross of 'Komodo Dragon' x 'Elvis Lives'.

Arctic Blast has a vase-like, upright habit, and produces trumpet-shaped, lavender flowers that are produced on 30-inch tall scapes in mid-summer that attract hummingbirds and pollinators galore! You'll love the effect as the wind blows through these two-tone leaves, bringing a cooling element to the shade garden!

Also known as Plantain Lily, Arctic Blast is hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 9 and grows to a low-mounding 3-4 feet width. So delightfully easy to grow, Arctic Blast is perfect for even the most novice gardeners!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

High-filtered or dappled sunlight is necessary for clean, healthy growth, so plant in the morning sun in partial shade, but in hot climates Hosta appreciate full shade, especially if they're planted in dry shade. An herbaceous Perennial, Hosta grows best in enriched, consistently moist, well-drained soils with a pH between 5.5 and 7.5. Top-dress with a 3 - 4 inch thick layer of arborist mulch over the soil surface, especially in dry shade conditions. Deadhead Hostas as soon as the flowers fade for a tidy look, and in fall when these herbaceous Perennials die back from the cold, it's time to prune the mound clean and remove the dead foliage. Divide your Hosta clumps every 3-5 years to maintain vigor.

  • Full Shade Perennial Also Tolerates Partial Shade
  • Moist Well-Drained Enriched Soil
  • Low-Maintenance & Remarkably Easy Care
  • Deadhead After Flowering & Prune Late Fall After Frost
  • Cold Hardy & Humidity Tolerant

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Hostas need full sun or shade?

Where do Hostas grow best?

Hosta plants love enriched, well-drained soil that is moderately yet consistently moist throughout the growing season. They appreciate mulched garden beds.

Do Hostas come back every year? Are Hostas a perennial plant?

What do you do with Hostas in the fall? What do you do with Hostas in the winter?
