These rugged evergreen plants are easy to care for and grow in full sun or shaded conditions. In very hot areas, give them shade in the afternoon. Nandina needs well-drained soil, and water carefully to establish, and provide supplemental water only during long periods of drought from then on. Add 3-4 inches of arborist mulch over the root system to keep it cool.

Nandina is a beautiful plant on many 'firescaping or firewise' plant lists. Their drought tolerance makes Nandina ideal for Rock Gardens and Xeric plantings! Prune to shape once a year after flowering.
