Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Shipping

To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.

Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

*If you have found your zone already, it will be highlighted in the table below.

Add some power to your landscape with the Firepower Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica 'Firepower') and its incredible year-round color! Your Firepower Nandina packs a lot of color into a small package. New growth emerges light green in spring, slowly transitioning to darker tones. By late summer, red tints grace the leaves as a preview of what's to come.

Also known as Chinese Sacred Bamboo, Firepower is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with outstanding fall and winter intensity! Plant one for an incredible display, or scatter a few around your yard. The dwarf Firepower is an easy shrub to find space for, and its amazing scarlet tones make it ideal as a way to bring a smattering of color to your yard for fall or winter.

When autumn arrives, the true splendor of this Heavenly Bamboo variety is revealed when all the "firepower" of this remarkable shrub is unleashed in an explosion of scarlet color that will set your yard ablaze. Perhaps most impressive is the way Firepower maintains its vibrant, red fall appearance into the barren winter months.

Remaining evergreen in warmer USDA planting zones 6 to 11, in cooler zones Nandina are semi-evergreen or act as deciduous shrubs, growing 2-3 feet tall and wide. Urban pollution-tolerant, disease, and pest-resistant plants, Nandina has an upright, compact nature, far smaller than that of other varieties. Firepower won't require any special care from you, and it's even drought-tolerant once established!

All this adaptability means in some locations, unfortunately, Nandina pops up where it should not. Enter your Zip Code in the Plant Highlights section to find your Hardiness Zone on this page and you'll see if Nature Hills can ship Nandina safely into your area. While Firepower doesn't bloom much and is mostly fruitless, birds can still spread the seeds that do form.

Nature Hills Nursery is at the forefront of environmental regulatory compliance with all agricultural laws. We use an online tool called Plant Sentry™, which blocks shipments of plants that can behave invasively in your locale.

Planting and Application:

Firepower transforms color beginning in spring and lasting until fall! Always tidy and showing off its compact leafy cane-like stems, this lovely foliage plant sets your landscape ablaze! This tidy broadleaf evergreen shrub will be perfect for your foundation plantings, as low hedges, and as property division with carefree maintenance.

Dwarf Heavenly Bamboo shrubs like Firepower radiate brilliantly as a container planting, adding lacy texture and color to your mixed planters as filler and thrillers, or as the specimen planting in a concrete pot or half whiskey barrel! Create conversation and screening around your seating areas, add a touch of tropical beauty around the pool, or dress up your balcony!

The lacy texture and space-saving size pop as a border row or edging! Try adding color to the weary row of conifers you have along your foundation hedge, both hiding their bare leggy lower stems as a facer plant, dwarf Nandia will also bring in that year-round color! Long low, winding hedges or en masse plantings will surround your landscape or your business in low-maintenance curb appeal that will turn heads each season!

  • Light Green Foliage In Spring Ages Darker Green & Red
  • 4-Season Interest Broadleaf Evergreen With Fall & Winter Color
  • Few Tiny White Flowers & Rarely Produces The Red Berries
  • Dwarf Low-Growing Shrub With Lacy Foliage
  • Low Hedges, Edging, Foundation Plantings, En Masse & Container Thrillers

#ProPlantTips for Care:

These rugged evergreen plants are easy to care for and grow in full sun or shaded conditions. In very hot areas, give them shade in the afternoon. Nandina needs well-drained soil, and water carefully to establish, and provide supplemental water only during long periods of drought from then on. Add 3-4 inches of arborist mulch over the root system to keep it cool.

Nandina is a beautiful plant on many 'firescaping or firewise' plant lists. Their drought tolerance makes Nandina ideal for Rock Gardens and Xeric plantings! Prune to shape once a year after flowering.

  • Best Color In Full Sun & Some Afternoon Shade
  • Any Well-Drained Soil Type
  • Moderate to Low Moisture - Drought Tolerant Once Established
  • Prune If Needed After Flowering
  • Low-Maintenance & Disease, Pest, Heat & Drought Resistance

If you love Nandina but want something with more 'oomph', then Firepower Nandina may be the variety for you. This incredible little shrub will not only fit in just about anywhere but impress you with how its small shape can hold such a huge amount of vibrant color.
