Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Handsome, Showy, Reliable Evergreen Gulftide Osmanthus

Durable, attractive evergreen shrubs help both commercial and residential property owners easily make the most of their space. Sophisticated selections rely on a bold outline and interesting foliage.

Whether you install a "Living Fence" or use it to define garden rooms, Gulftide Osmanthus (Osmanthus heterophyllus 'Gulftide') grows into a beautiful, enduring accent. It is a wonderful evergreen to use in full sun or partial shade.

An upright growth habit grows in thick and lush. Young green foliage resembles spiny Holly leaves. In fact, you'll hear this plant called "False Holly".

However, as the leaves age, the spines tend to soften visually. With different leaf shapes growing on the same plant. Gulftide has a dynamic, dimensional appeal that helps it stand out from other evergreen selections.

Use to increase privacy all year round. Grow it tall, or keep it at your preferred height with shearing.

The glossy, green, spiny leaves will definitely deter unwanted foot traffic. Protect your home with a sturdy, green fence.

Trim Gulftide Osmanthus tightly for a formal, manicured look, if you like. Just wait until after the tiny white flowers bloom in the fall.

People swear the little tubular blooms smell like apricots. Cut several branches for fragrant filler material in cut flower arrangements for the Holiday season.

The fragrant white flowers are appreciated by butterflies and hummingbirds. Even honey bees and critical beneficial pollinators will leverage their late-season nectar.

Deer tend to give Gulftide a wide berth. They simply don't prefer to nibble on the leathery, spiny leaves.

In fact, this highly sought-after cultivar is reputed to be one of the best for gardens in areas with heavy deer pressure. However, it's important to note that our plant experts always recommend the use of deer repellent spray, starting on day one.

You'll be thrilled with the high quality of Nature Hills plant material. Add Gulftide Osmanthus this season, place your order now.

How to Use Gulftide Osmanthus in the Landscape

Relax in luxuriant style with a long hedge of Gulftide Osmanthus. Spiny, glossy evergreen leaves are an impenetrable physical and visual barrier.

Use them along your property line to augment the height of dictated hardscape fencing. Or, you can simply plant one or two strategically where you need them for an effective privacy screen. Keep unwanted guests out of your poolside plantings with a mix of Osmanthus and Rugosa Roses that few skinny dippers will want to tangle with.

Keep foot traffic off the lawn with a lawn planting. Try three or more in a loose triangle and mulch underneath.

Add to the edge of your courtyard. Run them along your pool deck. You can even create a fantastic outdoor dining room with "living" walls. Their steady green tones, but delightfully varied foliage shapes keep your interest but never steal the show.

Try this technique to gift yourself an outdoor Yoga Studio. No nosy neighbors will gawk at your downward dogs.

Perfect as a backdrop, Gulftide Osmanthus can be repeated at the back of your borders. Place them to the north of smaller shrubs and perennials for a lovely display.

Create a solid hedge with a three-foot on-center planting pattern. Measure from the center of one to the center of the next.

You can even double up in some areas to create a drift. Start and end your hedge with a single plant, and go two or three deep as needed for extra privacy.

These formal plants will always look terrific. Why not try growing it out into its natural shape for a very modern feel?

#ProPlantTips for Care

Give your Gulftide Osmanthus at least four hours a day. They'll thrive in full sun or partial shade, which is such a boon for long hedges that run through both conditions. Well-drained soil is a must. They'll grow nicely even in clay, as long as the water sheds away quickly. Elevate in a raised bed, if you need to.

Apply a medium amount of water on a regular basis. Even though this tough plant survives periodic droughts, you'll protect your investment with supplemental water. Mulch also supports your plants. Add a three-inch layer over the root system, but please pull it back from the stems.

Prune to shape or shear in late winter. Keep the base wider than the top to ensure plenty of sunlight at the base of your beautiful Gulftides.

Every year, your plantings should look better and better. Apply a slow-release evergreen fertilizer formula as directed on the label.
