Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.
Standard Shipping Rates
At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 7-10
Big flouncy, fluffy plumes, reaching for the sky, the easily-recognizable tufts of Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana) can be seen around ponds and roadsides, waving 8-10 feet in the air! A dramatically tall, warm-season Ornamental Grass, its use in the landscape is well known due to its height, impact on the garden, and tropical appearance!
A 3-4 foot wide, clump-forming Ornamental, with narrow medium-green heavily serrated leaves, the stiff blades form a mixture of arching tips and stiff, straight textures. The leaves are evergreen, long, and slender, and are arranged in dense fountain-like clumps.
The real show starts in midsummer when the spectacular white plumes suddenly erupt from the foliage and reach up to one foot long. The feathery plumes persist and the foliage turns golden brown when touched by frost and cold weather! Birds and florists adore these plumes! The dried flower heads are commonly collected for dried home décor - both indoors and out!
With its impressive size, graceful aspect, durable toughness, and spectacular flowers, Pampas Grass is one of the most easily recognized plants in the landscape! Pampas Grass is highly adaptable and can grow in a wide range of environments and climates. Thriving throughout USDA growing zones 7 to 10, sometimes it can perform a bit too well. Nature Hills uses Plant Sentry™ to ensure no shipment is sent to threatened and sensitive areas of the country.
Planting and Application:
You'll typically see a large fountain of Pampas Grass standing tall as a marker at the end of someone's driveway or punctuating the corner of their front yard. An impressive specimen anywhere in the sun, these tall exclamation points anchor garden beds and soften the corner of homes foundation plantings or at the corner of an outbuilding to hide the trashcans or HVAC unit.
Fantastic seasonal privacy, a row or zigzag of these fast-growing grasses hide unsightly views, or nosy viewers and can be planted around seating areas, bulking up a privacy hedge, or interspersed among a mixed shrub border to add pinpoint screens. Swaying elegantly and adding rustling noise-canceling sound to the landscape, Ornamental grasses are often used in Tranquility and Zen gardens. Use by water features, ponds, and throughout the garden as a backdrop plant, and for vertical, year-round interest.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Provide Pampas Grass with full sun and fertile well-drained, loamy soils for best results. Water regularly to establish, and supply occasionally water during times of drought to keep your plants looking their best. Warm-season grasses may green up later in the spring, but really shine once the hot, dry summer weather kicks in! While evergreen in the warmest growing zones, Pampas grass appreciates a haircut in early spring before they start to grow. Tie up the clumps to hold them up through winter and to keep the bundles together when pruning them down in early spring.
