Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.

Mondo Grass is an incredibly unique ornamental grass with an ultimate dark purple-black color. As it grows its erect growth changes and adopts an elegant slightly bowing form for a gentle, soft appearance. Arching and graceful, these are fantastic border and edging plants!
In the summer tiny pinkish-white flowers form, resembling little balls, add a bit of additional decorative appeal. With an ultra-modern form that creates a streamlined clean visual appearance that delivers high impact.
In fall, small purple berries form and add further interest to your plant! Plus you’ll enjoy the gorgeous color extends throughout the year! As an evergreen perennial grass so you’ll be able to enjoy this unique coloration throughout the winter months!
How to Use Black Mondo Grass In The Landscape
A low-growing grass, and incredible coloration year-round, it's a very unique lawn substitute en masse or in rows for a small, out of the way area, you’ll create a high-impact visual for your landscape! You can even keep it short like lawn grass without a problem, and you won't spend all weekend mowing!
It also develops a thick mat of roots so planting it against foundations can aid in dealing with water run-off. Plant around the base of your gutters where they drain or create a Rain garden! Use around water features and brooks, for intense color!
Two of the enemies of grasses, deer and bunnies, tend to leave it alone, so easily plant swaths of these in out-of-the-way areas without worry. Great atop steep slopes and hillsides that are difficult to mow and let this grass slowly spread to fill the area in color!
Plus it can even handle heavy traffic so using it around paving stones would be no problem at all. Plant in Rock gardens and throughout an updated Cottage or Perennial garden where its modern color takes things to a new level!
Mondo Grass has always been a modern favorite for use as a groundcover with its long, strappy leaves and mounded habit. When used as edging around pool decks, pathways or your foundation where you’ll certainly bump up the curb appeal big time!
Excellent in containers and planters to add depth and dramatic coloration! Use around your patios, balconies and porch plantings to kick up the color in both sun and partial shade! Courtyards and front entrances all benefit from this fantastic plant!
With deeply dark foliage, this is an incredible selection to place alongside contemporary buildings and highlight modern sculptures or reflecting pools, Zen and meditation gardens, and general use for formal beds and borders!
#ProPlantTips For Care
Plant in full sun in the cooler USDA growing zones of 6 through 9. Tolerating partial shade as well, you’ll get the best coloration when in full sun, however, those in the warmer climates will find their grass appreciates part sun or afternoon shade.
Mondo Grass is drought-tolerant, but to protect your investment provide water in times of severe drought. Preferring evenly moist soils in average fertility, be sure to plant in well-drained soil for best results.
Deer resistant, even pests seem to avoid it, eliminating the need for costly pesticides. Low maintenance, this slow and steady grower doesn’t require much upkeep! This jet black grass received an award of garden merit from the Royal Horticultural Society, so you know it’s an amazing plant!
Ultimate dark and dramatic color that lasts all year round, you’ll be thrilled with this intense colored grass! Black Mondo Grass has a sleek, modern look and feel! You’ll be glad you ordered yours at NatureHills.com!
