Plant Sentry™

Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.

This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Gatsby Gal® Hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia 'Brenhill') is a dream of a Hydrangea. The compact Oakleaf shrub has massive blooms, growing a full foot or more long. The greenish-white florets turn into pure white panicles making an impressive display from mid-summer to autumn.

It blooms beginning in mid-summer but will continue blooming through the fall when the leaves and flowers begin to take on burgundy tones. The blooms are steadfast, too, appearing every year no matter the weather or soil pH. The textured leaves look fantastic even when not set off by the blooms!

This shrub was named the "Must-Grow New Shrub for 2014" by Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, and it definitely fits the bill! Hardy in USDA growing zones 5-9, these are compactly growing ornamental flowering shrubs that reach a mature height and width of 5-6 feet.

Planting and Application:

Planted in groups, it can look like a foot-thick snow bank has landed on top of the shrub. These compact shrubs look fantastic along your property division for privacy and screening and these shrubs are fantastic for erosion control and filling dangerous to mow hillsides with beautiful blooms! Pair with the blushing Gatsby Pink® Hydrangea for a beautiful pairing of pinks and white!

Gatsby Gal® Oakleaf Hydrangea is a great back-of-the-border shrub or a splendid foundation plant. The graceful white blooms look good with almost any type of landscape, making this a very versatile addition to your garden. Don't forget to snip a few for your bouquets, but leave a few for the pollinators and for dried winter interest once the snows begin to fall.

  • Greenish to White Panicle Blossoms
  • Foot Long Blooms
  • Compact Oakleaf Smaller Shrub
  • Fall & Winter Interest

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Oakleaf Hydrangea does best in full sun in cooler zones and partial to afternoon shade in hotter climates. This is an American native plant and handles almost any soil or weather that you can throw at it. Preferring moderately moist, well-drained soil with a 3-4 inch layer of mulch to insulate the roots and hold in moisture. This is already a tidy pant, but it takes pruning well if you need it even tighter. It blooms on old growth, so prune it after it finishes blooming in late summer.

  • Full Sun to Partial Shade
  • Moderately Moist Soil & Mulch
  • Adaptable to Most Well-Drained Soil Types
  • Prune After Flowering
  • Hardy & Adaptable
