Growing Zones 5-8
You'll have a hard time waiting for early spring! Field-tested by the Proven Winners® team, After a long, gray winter, you really start to crave spring flowers, don't you? Get an explosion of eye-shocking color with the improved variety, Show Off® Forsythia (Forsythia x intermedia 'Mindor'). You'll have visual fireworks in your spring garden!
Once the weather starts warming up, you and your neighbors will be thrilled. Relish the sight of its electric sunshine-yellow flowers. The flowering display of Show Off® Forsythia can't be beat. Each bare branch will be absolutely covered from the ground to the very tips with bell-shaped blooms.
Go ahead and sneak a few branches indoors in late winter once you see the flower buds swelling. Forcing Forsythia branches is an exciting project that couldn't be easier. Place the branches in a tall vase filled with warm water changed daily. You'll create a charming indoor cut flower arrangement, weeks before the shrub blooms outside.
The showy form looks great all year long. Even though this shrub is deciduous, the dense branch structure adds an easy and effective architectural feature in winter. In cold climates, you'll see burgundy fall color too! In warmer climates, the fall foliage can be a range of colors from yellow to purple!
The "can't miss it" color makes a big statement in spring, summer, and fall! A solid choice, reliable Show Off® Forsythia is an optimistic plant with a great form for USDA growing zones 5 to 8! And despite the name, this plant isn't a diva. Show Off® Forsythia will reward you with years of well-mannered beauty.
Planting and Application:
Allow this shrub to become the superstar of your spring plantings! Use it in a high-profile part of your landscape and make people smile! Make people slow down as they drive past! Show Off® is definitely not your typical Forsythia!
Use a single specimen, or plant several as a hedge. Forsythia is an investment in happiness. Don't make more pruning work for yourself by planting in a small area that is too tight. Measure your planting space to ensure it has enough room to grow to its full height and spread. Enjoy a handsome hedge with very little pruning.
Show Off® stays tightly compact without the usual work, headaches, and hassle. In summer, their lush dark green foliage makes Show Off® a perfect privacy screen and texture plant. For a high-impact look, line your driveway or property line with a long hedge. Plan a mass planting to fill open ground on commercial properties. Can you imagine how much attention your business will receive in spring?
Versatile Show Off® can be grown in outdoor pots on a sunny deck or balcony. Give it regular water to add lavish color and privacy to your small space garden, porch and patio, or even the dramatic feature in a container garden!
Add one by the back garden gate or at the corner of your foundation planting. Use it where you'll see it from inside the house or deck and create a "vista" for yourself with a new mulched island bed in the lawn. Add to a diversified slope-plantings as an accent that helps reduce soil erosion. You'll punctuate the overall look with bold springtime color!
Plant three in an informal triangle for a natural look. Underplant with spring-flowering bulbs to amplify the springtime impact, then layer in smaller shrubs like Goldflame Spirea and Invincibelle Limetta® Hydrangea for summer color.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Plant your Show Off® Forsythia shrubs in full sun or partial shade, but you'll enjoy far more flowers in 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Give them well-drained soil that sheds water quickly after a rainfall. If needed, mound up an elevated planting site with additional soil 18 inches high by three feet wide and plant in that mound.
Apply a medium amount of water on a regular basis. Keep container plants well-hydrated, as well. Providing a good layer of mulch will help keep the root system cool and moist. Prune right after flowering is done. Every so often, prune the largest, thickest canes out at ground level to keep your shrub rejuvenated and healthy. Deer don't prefer the taste. However, deer are hungry and curious. Apply repellent when you plant, and reapply according to label directions.
- Grows in Full Sun or Partial Shade
- Any Well-Drained Soil - Flourishes in Alkaline Conditions
- Moderate Moisture Needs & Appreciates Mulched Beds
