The gorgeous deep-purple to reddish-purple blooms of the Declaration Lilac (Syringa x hyacinthiflora 'Declaration') will draw pollinators and admirers alike! One of the earlier blooming Lilacs, Declaration welcomes spring with larger panicles of sweet-smelling blooms on an upright, sturdy shrub!
Those fragrant blooms are held upon sturdy stems and will grace your garden and indoor vase arrangements alike! Local hummingbirds and a host of bees and butterflies will be flocking to your garden in search of nectar once those blooms burst open in spring!
A mid-sized Lilac, Declaration will fit perfectly in your landscape for a wide variety of beautiful uses. Declaration Lilac has deep green leaves that make a fantastic backdrop for Perennials and Roses later in the season! And then in the fall, this unique selection has another trick up its sleeve! Dramatic purple to burgundy fall color lights up your shrub for one last wave goodbye before winter!
Growing to a nice upright shape that's 6-8 feet tall and 5-6 feet wide, this Lilac works well for smaller yards and established landscapes that just need a bit more oomph! Incredibly cold-hardy, tolerating winters down to arctic USDA zones 2 through 7, there is little in your climate that will faze this hardy ornamental flowering shrub! Declaration Lilac is also great for firescaping and creating buffers in your fire-wise landscaping!
Planting and Application:
Working wonderfully in your borders or mixed shrub hedge, it will create a lovely and colorful foundation plant. Declaration Lilac also makes a wonderful privacy screen! Growing and staying narrow and upright, create the privacy border of your dreams and feel confident your neighbors won't mind the view from the other side either!
Groupings not only provide screening but also fragrant floral garden rooms and nooks, dividing your backyard into mini-retreats for not only yourself but also your wildlife and feathered friends that come to roost and nest among the dense branching.
Any garden becomes a cut flower and pollinator garden with the addition of a Lilac! Decorate your front foundation plantings and anchor garden beds with these corner-softening shrubs! Incredible depth of color makes these ideal specimens that accent any garden, fill in the corners of your landscape with color, and bring fragrance everywhere!
Why not go for the gusto and create an entire backdrop border for your garden beds with a whole collection of Lilacs? You'll love including the dark purple early blooming Declaration with mid-season blooming pinkish Persian Lilacs or the fine texture of Miss Kim. Include late-season Miss Canada or Albert F. Holden to round out the spring, with some long-blooming Common Purple Lilacs and reblooming Lilacs to fill in the gaps between!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Declaration Lilac thrives in full sun and is very tolerant of a wide range of soil types and highly resistant. Lilacs are synonymous with easy-care and cold resistance and it also loves the full sun! Not particular on soil type, any rich well-drained soil is best, preferring slightly alkaline soils. Enrich with compost and add organic, slow-release blooming shrub fertilizer in spring. Be sure Lilacs do not sit in water, nor dry out for too long to protect your investment.
A generous layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture as well as insulate the root system from heat and chill. Water well through the crucial establishment period and during extended drought. Be sure to not cluster Lilac too tightly among other large trees or shrubs.
If you live with deer in your area, apply repellent spray on planting day. Deer are hungry and curious, and you want to train them to leave your plants alone. Reapply according to the label.
Don't miss a single bloom! Follow these easy Pruning steps for the best flowering. It is important not to prune Lilacs until after they have finished blooming, because if you wait too long and you may remove next year's flowers! Every few years, Lilac benefits from a renewal pruning too.
- Sun Loving Bloomer
