Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Growing Zones 3-9
The cheery color combo of the Dakota™ Verde Penstemon (Penstemon digitalis 'TNPENDV') adds gorgeous contrast to the garden! Rosy lavender to violet flowers are tubular and attract a host of butterflies and hummingbirds! Standing tall atop 24 inch tall, strong dark-purple stems and shiny ornamental foliage! In warmer growing zones, those 12-18 inch mounds of glossy green leaves remain evergreen through winter for an added bonus!
The light pink interiors of these tubular blooms just glow when set against the rosy violet outsides! Combined with the dark pink of the ends where they attach to the stems creates a fantastic ombre effect! Add in the dramatic deep maroon-purple stems and you have a fantastic contrast in color all summer and incredible focal points in bouquets! Rounded clumps of glossy green leaves are blushed with dramatic purple overtones and dark seed heads for fall interest.
Also called Beardtongue, these are hardy perennial selections! Mingling among all garden styles and all sizes! Of the hundreds of native species of these Plantain family relatives, all but one are found right here in the US! So you just know these plants are hardy and adapted for whatever your USDA growing zone 3 through 9 can throw at them!
Planting and Application:
These are prime pollinator border and cut flower garden additions! Add a hummingbird feeder and enjoy the flutter of wings all summer! Dakota™ Verde adds upright form and texture to Perennial beds and Cottage Gardens! The native form of this plant is a larval Host Plant for many types of butterflies and moths so include them in a Wildflower garden, updated Prairie, or naturalized-looking modern Meadow planting!
The perfect size and shape to use as thrillers in containers and planters, you will love having these rosy blooms close by! Adorn a sunny porch or patio, juice up a poolside or seating area, and welcome everyone to your front door in some mixed planters with these upright blooming lovelies taking center stage in a tall planter!
Vibrant and low-maintenance when used in xeriscaping, en mass, and along sunny pathways and hell-strip locations are no problem for DAKOTA™ Verde! Go ahead and use them as showy border plants! The swaths of color are in contrast to the delicate-looking blooms! But these hardy, compact and smaller-sized perennials are fast-growing plants that are drought tolerant once established, making them perfect for Fire-wise landscaping and Rock gardening.

#ProPlantTips for Care:
Penstemon flowers best in full sun and in well-drained soil conditions, preferring average soil types on the lean side. Provide regular moisture access throughout their first year, but once these herbaceous perennials are established, they are blissfully drought-tolerant and xeric! Provide a 3-4 inch thick layer of Mulch around their crowns, these are very cold tolerant, you can leave these seed heads as winter interest and attract songbirds, or deadhead them to tidy up the mounds in fall. Trim all foliage down late fall after frost, and divide every few years to maintain the vigor of the crown.
- Full Sun Blooms
- Average to Low Fertility
- Well-Drained Soil & Appreciates Mulch
- Regular to Low Moisture
- Xeric & Drought-Tolerant Once Established
- Deer & Rabbit-Resistant
