Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar Tree

Your yard needs that crowning glory specimen, the finishing touch that completes the entire design, or just that one focal point that turns heads! Well, the Weeping Atlas Blue Cedar Tree (Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca Pendula') is just that pop of whimsy, finery, garden jewelry, or silver crown that is the special touch any landscape needs to feel complete!

A truly unique evergreen conifer that adorns the garden with soft, silvery blue hues, and twisting, cascading branches that arch toward the ground and weep softly. Held in clusters along these slender stems, the needles hold their glaucous blue-green hue year round!

This wonderful weeping conifer has twisting, long branches that drape themselves around the trunk. Generally growing 3-12 feet in height and 3-12 feet in width, and growing in a manner unique to each tree, you can train yours as tall or as wide as your garden needs. The Weeping Atlas Cedar is a living work of art!

While it may take them some time to reach that mature height, creating original artwork takes time - and stands the test of time too! These are long-lived trees that are in it for the long haul anyway! Prepare to be amazed for decades to come!

This weeping conifer can be trained to conform to a desired silhouette, much like a large Bonsai. It has an equally wonderful weeping form when allowed to grow in its own quirky manner, and the branches are left to drape and sweep the ground. This weeping form of a Blue Atlas Cedar Tree, in its old age, gets broader and develops a flat-topped form at maturity. With this stunning feature of long cascading branches, it can spread quite some distance if you let it!

Landscape Application:

To keep the tree from growing too near the ground, stake and train the trunk while young to the form preferred. Encouraging a tall straight trunk with cascading branches makes this tree a perfect specimen on a front yard berm or as the surprise in a secret nook off a side yard pathway.

For a bit more romance, let the tree grow on an Espalier trellis and train it into an arching crescent or waterfall-like curtain as a backdrop to your seating areas and backyard nooks. A single tree is a living sculpture in your landscape beds or as a silvery blue crown jewel among your other garden favorites.

Pair with Blue Girl Hybrid Tea Roses, underplant with silver Hosta's, and Fairytrail Bride® Cascade Hydrangeas®, or contrast with dark foliage plants and dark evergreens and Boxwood, sheared into formal shapes and mounded forms. Or pair with other weeping evergreens like Slenderina® Weeping Blue Spruce or other curiosities like Rose Trees, Hydrangea Trees, and Weeping Redbuds!

Try planting a pair on either side of your front entry or the entrance to a pathway, with each Weeping Blue Atlas arching over your head and cascading down the other side to meet in the middle. You'll feel like you've stepped into a fairy realm!

Try allowing your Weeping Blue Cedar to sprawl along a fence to create a silvery blue curtain that acts as a backdrop to your landscaping beds or polite privacy screens that the neighbor couldn't possibly feel excluded by! Let them trail along a trellis to create living walls that enclose your garden rooms in whimsical high style!

Truly a unique plant, Weeping Blue Atlas Cedar has branches that feature a flowing effect, sometimes described as a cascading waterfall. Plant one in your Zen Garden or Meditation nook, and an Atlas Weeping Cedar is a must-have for your Asian-inspired Gardens where it can be reflected in a gazing pool or small pond! A single tree trained to arch over a bistro set or reading chair becomes a romantic and secret getaway! This silvery evergreen will set your Moon Garden off delightfully!

While young, these trees can easily adapt to large planters and urns, courtyard and formal raised gardens, or container gardens on balconies. Adapting to your needs and the space provided so you can attain any garden style you desire with a one-in-a-million focal point.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Cedar Trees require full sun but can tolerate some light afternoon shade in hotter climates of USDA planting zones 6 to 9. These rugged trees adapt to most soils but prefer well-drained, acidic loam in an area away from strong winds. Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. All plants appreciate a deep layer of mulch blanketing their root system for insulation, moisture retention, and to keep weed competition at bay.

Feed with a general-purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. Use a strong stake or trellis system to train young trees and check stake ties often to ensure they are not digging into the bark. Prune with a light hand and only remove breakage and winter dieback in the spring.

• Full Sun Evergreen Conifer - Tolerates Some Shade In Hot Climates
• Adaptable - Prefers Well-Drained Loamy Soil
• Regular Moisture Access & Mulched Beds
• May Need Training & Staking If Desired
• Provide An Area Protected From Drying Northern Winds & Strong Winds
• Prune To Remove Damage & Crossing Branches Only
