#ProPlantTips for Care:
These tuberous, herbaceous perennial plants enjoy full sun and sometimes partial shade in hotter growing zones of USDA zones 9-11. Soak the tubers for a few hours before planting and plant them with their fingers spread out gently and pointing downwards. Preferring a wide range of soil types, clay, and acidic conditions, as long as they're planted in well-drained locations. To ensure even moisture, place mulch around the base of the plant. Adding mulch can add to the overall appearance and make it look clean and put together.
Dahlia tubers can be dug up in fall after frost and stored in all growing zones! The foliage will fade in the fall and wilt with colder nights. In very cold climates, to save your tubers for the next year, dig up the plants after the first frost. Let them dry out, and then place in paper bags or boxes in a cool place. Throughout the winter, sprinkle a little water on the tubers if they are dry. If you live in a warmer frost-free climate, leave them in the ground and just trim out stems to keep your plants looking their best; fresh growth will appear in the spring.
