Very Disappointed

Although my order arrived in a timely manner, the tree was covered in aphids and thrips. Most of the leaves had fallen off.
It was also the wrong variety. It has been 4 business days and I have received no response to my email to support.

Arrived healthy and in good shape.

Of course, this is a preliminary rating since, by the nature of a plant, I won't know for some time how it turns out. With that in mind, the plant was delivered in a timely manner and arrived in good shape, thanks in part to well thought out packing. I planted it the next day - that was about a week ago and have been watering it each day since. It is already showing good color and probably the beginnings of growth. So far, I am satisfied with the plant and looking forward to a bright display.

Crape myrtles are pretty resilient once they settle in, and it sounds like yours is already responding well after just a week. Daily watering right after planting is exactly the right move, and once you see consistent new growth you can start tapering back a bit as the roots establish. The Purely Purple blooms are a real standout, so you have something to look forward to this season. Thanks for the update, Lance, and please feel free to check back in with us as it grows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the darkest purple crape myrtle?

  • Black Diamond® Purely Purple™ Crape Myrtle features the darkest foliage available, with striking black leaves that create dramatic contrast against clear purple blooms. This variety stands out from typical crape myrtles with its unique dark-black foliage. Prune to one foot each winter for a compact 3-foot hedge.

What planting zones is the Black Diamond® Purely Purple™ Crape Myrtle hardy in?

  • Black Diamond® Purely Purple™ Crape Myrtle thrives in USDA zones 6-9. This hardy selection tolerates both heat and cold better than traditional varieties. Shop at Nature Hills for guaranteed quality plants shipped directly from expert growers.

What type of soil does the Black Diamond® Purely Purple™ Crape Myrtle prefer?

  • Black Diamond® Purely Purple™ Crape Myrtle thrives in well-draining soil and tolerates a wide pH range. This adaptable shrub handles both clay and sandy soils once established. For best results, amend heavy clay with compost to improve drainage before planting.

Is this crape myrtle deer resistant?

  • Crape myrtles are generally deer resistant due to their tough, fibrous bark and leaves that deer typically avoid. The Black Diamond® Purely Purple™'s dense branching provides additional protection for garden beds behind it. Plant it as a natural deer deterrent along property borders or around vulnerable plants.

Can this crape myrtle tolerate drought conditions once established?

  • Black Diamond® Purely Purple™ Crape Myrtle develops excellent drought tolerance once its root system establishes. This hardy shrub thrives in hot, dry conditions typical of most growing zones. Water regularly the first year, then reduce frequency as the plant matures at naturehills.com.
