Plant Sentry™
Plant Sentry is designed to protect both consumers and the nursery trade from invasive plant pests and diseases. Sites that display the Plant Sentry protection badge are protected from consumers buying and nurseries shipping material carrying invasive pests and diseases.
This proprietary eCommerce software prevents the shipment of a restricted plant to each state. The Plant Sentry system includes a shipment certification program. The Plant Sentry Compliance Officer works closely with NatureHills.com and each nursery or fulfillment center to ensure only compliant plants are sold to customers.

Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
Shipping
To obtain a more accurate shipment time-frame, simply enter your zip code in the “Find Your Growing Zone” box to the right. Our plants are grown all over the country and lead time on items may be different because of this. Once your order is placed, you will also receive the specific shipment time-frame information as part of your order confirmation. Once an item ships, you will receive shipment notification and tracking numbers, so you can follow along while your plant travels to your doorstep. We use FedEx, UPS, or USPS at our discretion.
Due to winter weather we have put a hold on shipping to the areas shown below in grey. You can still order now and we will ship the plant to you during an appropriate time for your zone.
Standard Shipping Rates
At Nature Hills we handle, package and ship the products you order with the utmost care to ensure healthy delivery. Shipping and handling charges are calculated based on the tables below. Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 5 - 9
Meet Corkscrew Rush's big brother, the Big Twister Corkscrew Rush (Juncus effusus 'Big Twister') for even taller, quirkier, and more lively water garden whimsy than ever before! You'll love this new 'twist' in landscape offerings! Like something Dr. Seuss or Willy Wonka came up with, these new Rush Grass family members are living works of art!
Known for their cylindrical foliage that is unlike anything else you've seen, Rush leaves aren't flat, they are round! These unique garden gems twist, curl, spiral, and undulate in every direction but mostly form upright vase-shaped mounds of pure fancy!
Fast-growing, summer brings insignificant yellowish-white blossoms that appear along the stems, and if pollinated, become spikey round seedpods that further add to the whimsy of these unique water garden specimens!
Rush Grasses aren't true grass, but they spread politely by way of rhizomes to form tidy and curious clumps throughout USDA plant hardiness zones 5 to 9. Growing 18-24 inches in height with a similar spread, these wet-soil-loving perennials can be semi-evergreen in warm climates!
Planting and Application:
Who knew grasses went to get perms? Big Twister Corkscrew Rush's twisty, curly, springy foliage provides unique and eye-catching texture along pond edges, in those boggy areas around your landscape, where the gutters or HVAC unit drains and along brooks and marshes!
Mix Big Twister with Corkscrew Rush and other water garden plants like Flag Iris, or equally whimsical Papyrus! For a truly eye-popping juxtaposition try planting it with ram-rod straight Soft Rush Grass, or play with colors by tossing in some Elk Blue California Gray Rush and Swamp Milkweed for your pollinators to join the dragonflies as they frolic!
If they can handle all that, imagine these curiosities in your Rain Garden or as the 'thriller' in a barrel water garden! Rush Grasses can spread gradually by rhizomes and will even remain semi-evergreen in mild winter climates, adding unique fall and winter color and texture.
- Whimsical Cylindrical Foliage Spirals, Twists, Twirls & Curls

#ProPlantTips for Care
Rush Grasses likes full sun or partial shade and plenty of water. As long as they have consistent soil moisture, they are happy as can be, as long as it isn't stagnant. Provide regular moisture access for plants located in average garden soils. In cooler climes, the foliage becomes yellow, then brown in fall to winter dying back to the ground like a perennial. In warm climates, it can be semi-evergreen. Clean and prune the mounds in the very early spring for best results.
- Full Sun & Part Shade
- Consistently Moist Environments & Even Standing Water
- Well-Drained Environments
- Prune Back Early Spring
- Rarely Damaged By Deer
