Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones 3-9
Sweet and petite color and contrast, the Petite Delight Bee Balm (Monarda didyma 'Petite Delight) is a showy and space-saving clump-forming perennial that has tubular, two-lipped, light red to purple flowers with dark green aromatic foliage!
Petite Delight blooms from July to August and brings in pollinators and hummingbirds to its nectar-rich whorled blossoms! It is one of the smallest Monarda in its family and has the darkest foliage.
Also known as Bergamont, Horsemint, or Oswego Tea, the Mint-family leaves are used as a tea or added to salads, and the roots spread into colonizing clumps just 12-18 inches wide and 15 inches tall. Hardy in both cold and heat throughout USDA planting zones 3 to 9!
Landscape Application:
Darling little showstoppers, Petite Delight turns any garden into a pollinator garden! Add cheerful pops of color to Cottage borders and mixed perennial gardens as edging or front-of-the-garden border accents!
Perfect for planters around your porch and patio, or the summer-flowering part of a mixed container, even balcony gardens and window boxes benefit from these cheerful pops of color! Mix with other dwarf Bee Balms or smaller flowering perennials in the sun for a vivid display!
Ideal for the outskirts of water gardens and water features, Monarda does just as well in drier settings and average garden locations. They especially do well in mass planting settings because they are very easy to grow and low-maintenance!
- Rosy Purple Fragrant Flowers
- Dark & Aromatic Foliage
- Attracts Hummingbirds & Butterflies
- Adds Color & Contrast With Compact Growth
- Amazing Massed & Grouped, Space-Saving Specimens & Container Accents
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Monarda has the most flowers and strongest stems when planted in full sun but will tolerate afternoon shade, especially in hotter climates. Growing best in rich well-drained soil and water regularly during the summer to support the blooms and provide a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the roots to keep them insulated and retain soil moisture more consistently.
Deadhead when the flowers fade to clean the mounds and then in the fall, remove the tops of the plants after frost kills back the foliage. Divide every few years to keep the spread in check and maintain the growing vigor.
