Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements

Growing Zones 3-8
The Amethyst™ Coralberry bush (Symphoricarpos x doorenbosii 'Kordes') is a Proven Winners® selection that produces gorgeous, deep purple-pink fruit that is bright and showy for your autumn and winter interest!
Amethyst™ Coralberry displays a tidy, branching habit. The small white mid-summer flowers are pollinators and native bee-friendly! Soon they transform into hot pink berries in late summer. For a neat winter decoration, use the berry-laden winter stems for indoor bouquets and floral arrangements.
Then it provides interest for the home garden by providing vivid pink fruit in late summer and persisting until winter - or the birds pluck them all away for their winter treats. Songbirds, ground birds, wildlife, small mammals, and browsers use the plant for food, cover, and nesting.
Hardy throughout USDA growing zones 3 to 8, Amethyst™ is a fantastic native hybrid shrub that is highly adaptable and easy to grow! Members of the Honeysuckle family, Coralberry go by many common names and are closely related to Snowberry, these great deciduous shrubs for your landscape!
Planting and Application:
Growing 3-5 feet in height and width, Amethyst™ is a fantastic hedging and screening plant! Brighten a dreary evergreen hedge or foundation planting with a row or a few Coralberry bushes to accent your home's front landscape!
Often forming tidy thickets and naturalized colonies, these shrubs fill in large areas or brighten smaller ones with ease! Stop erosion on hillsides, brighten a garden as a unique backdrop, or simply add pops of late-season color throughout the landscape!

- Gorgeous Container Plants, Low Hedges, Accents & Wildlife Shrubs
#ProPlantTips for Care:
Handling full sun and preferring afternoon shade in the hottest climates, this Coralberry can handle partial shade as well! The Amethyst™ is very tolerant of any soil, native to limestone and clay but the location needs to be well-drained. The plant requires medium moisture and can handle higher moisture as long as it has good drainage. Top-dress your shrub's root system with 3-4 inches of arborist mulch to keep them hydrated and insulated.
This Coralberry is deer-resistant. but it is an important wildlife plant. Fertilize in early spring by applying a slow-release fertilizer specialized for trees and shrubs. You get best results if pruned in late fall or early spring. Renewal pruning is another great way to keep your shrub growing vigorously and fruiting best. Remove the oldest stems out at the ground every 3-5 years to keep them spiffy!
- Full Sun & Handles Afternoon Shade
- Almost Any Well-Drained Soil
- Moderate to Higher Moisture
- Prune Early Spring Before Growth Starts
- Fairly Deer Resistant
