Thriving in most conditions throughout USDA 3 to 8, and even tolerating poor-quality, rocky soil. Profuse bloomers that are also drought-tolerant once established, Candytufts benefit from protection from snowpack or add a few evergreen boughs in late fall in those cold zones to protect from winter exposure. They also appreciate mulch to insulate the roots from the cold. Prune back after flowering by a third to encourage a rebloom in the fall and encourage new growth.
