Description

Pretty flowering butterflies for your garden, the Acidanthera Gladiolus (Gladiolus murielae) is a Gladiolus family flowering plant with pretty snow-white petals splashed in burgundy, held on droopy elegant stems over vertical green leaves!

Also known as Peacock Lily or Abyssinian Gladiolus, these pretty blossoms appear in the late summer and can last until fall! The drooping stems are full of buds that each take a turn opening as they work their way up the stems! Pollinators adore these lovely blooms and you will too for your bouquets and floral arrangements!

Unlike many Gladiolus, Adicanthera are fragrant and do very well in sunny containers or in the sun garden border throughout USDA planting zones 7 through 11 but can be used as seasonal annuals in colder zones. Northern growers can also treat these corms as they do Canna and Dahlia, lifting them in the fall and storing them for the winter.

Landscape Application:

Acidanthera Gladiolus are elegant blossoms that look best in large clusters, long winding rows, or grouped in drifts to maximize their dainty flowers! Mix with similar flowers in white, red, burgundy, or with plants like Iris, Bee Balm, Penstemon, Delphinium and Larkspur, Hyssop, Fortnight Lily, and Gaura!

Beautiful throughout the sunny Cottage garden, mixed perennial border, throughout your cutting garden, and pollinator plantings to add Acidantheras' dainty beauty! You don't even need a garden to enjoy these easy-to-grow bulbs! Porch planters, mixed containers, and patio pots full of these enjoyable little flowering plants!

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Gladiolus family plants grow strongest and have the best flowering display in full sun in cooler growing zones but appreciate afternoon shade in hot climates. Any well-drained soil location works well and these bulbs appreciate moderate yet regular moisture access and mulched beds.

Plant these corms in the spring about 5-6 inches deep, and plant your corms pointy side up about 5-6 inches apart. Groupings and rows have the biggest effect and impact on your garden. There is no worry about Deer and rabbits nibbling your plants either because very little bothers these beauties!

Deadhead as soon as the last flower fades but keep the greenery to make food for the corm until the leaves turn yellow. In zones 1 through 6, lift your corms as you would Canna or Dahlias, and store them for the winter in a cool, dark location.

  • Full Sun & Afternoon Shade In Hot Climates
  • Moderate Moisture Needs
  • Organic Well-Drained Soil
  • Deadhead After Blooms Fade & Prune or Dig in Fall
  • Spring-Planted Summer-Flowering Corm
  • Deer & Rabbit Resistant
