Dear William,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! We're glad to hear the plants arrived securely with moist roots – that packaging is designed precisely to keep your new additions safe and healthy during transit. It sounds like you’re off to a great start by planting and mulching them; that will definitely help protect the roots over winter.

As you wait for spring, we recommend keeping the mulch layer fresh and somewhat moderate in thickness to insulate roots without retaining excess moisture that can lead to rot. If cold snaps get severe, a light cover, such as burlap, can offer extra protection. Feel free to check our online care guides anytime for tips customized to your plant varieties—they can be a big help during the colder months.

We look forward to hearing how your plants thrive next season and are here to support you along the way.

  • Dream Catcher® Smoky Rose® Switch Grass thrives in well-draining soil and tolerates a wide range of conditions from sandy to clay. • Dream Catcher® Smoky Rose® Switch Grass blooms in mid to late summer with rose-pink flower plumes that age to smoky tan through winter. • Dream Catcher® Smoky Rose® Switch Grass is both deer-resistant and extremely low-maintenance. This drought-tolerant native perennial thrives in zones 4-10 without staking, even in strong winds. Simply cut back once in late winter for effortless care.

How do I care for Dream Catcher® Smoky Rose® Switch Grass in spring, like cutting it back?

  • Cut back Dream Catcher® Smoky Rose® Switch Grass to 4-6 inches in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. As a warm-season grass, it stays dormant until soil warms up. Wait until you see green shoots emerging, then trim away the previous year's stems and seed heads.
