Understanding Plant Options
Nature Hills offers plants in two main formats:
- Container Plants: Grown in pots with soil, sized by container volume and plant age
- Bare Root Plants: Dormant plants without soil, sized by height measurements
Container Plant Sizes
Container sizes indicate plant age and growing capacity rather than liquid volume equivalents. Our containers follow industry-standard nursery "trade gallon" specifications, which differ from standard liquid gallon measurements.

Growing Zones
A glowing and vibrant gold never goes out of style in the garden. Lucky for you, the Gold Lace Juniper (Juniperus chinensis 'Gold Lace') will keep your interest and admiration year after year as its foliage undergoes a transformation from deep forest green to vibrant yellow!
This Juniper is one of the most pristine and even gold Junipers on the market. The Gold Lace Juniper's new growth is flashy and intense. And as time passes, its innermost foliage becomes an attractive forest green. Its coloration adds brilliance and highlights the Gold Lace Juniper's thin and intricate feathery needles.
Growing 3-5 feet tall and about 4-6 feet wide, Gold Lace has a waterfall effect that just stands out among darker evergreens and chartreuse ornamentals alike! Hardy throughout a wide range of USDA planting zones 4 to 9, Junipers are among the easiest and lowest-maintenance shrubs available!
Landscape Application:
With its lovely golden hues, the Gold Lace Juniper makes an ideal foundation planting that will contrast and harmonize with your other landscaping. As an evergreen, it will keep your yard looking verdant and healthy all year long!
Because of its green-to-yellow ombre, it also looks fabulous as a stand-alone planting! As a Juniper, this plant will establish on slopes or rocky terrain. A little Gold Lace Juniper goes a long way. When planning your planting, provide your Gold Lace Juniper with room to spread. While staying under 6 feet in height, this prized plant will spread outward. It goes quickly, making it great for near-immediate erosion control.
Plant your Gold Lace Junipers with a mix of other Juniper varieties. It plays well off blues and green and dark foliage shrubs, becoming the gilded member of a mixed shrub border or an eye-catching hedge! Tall enough for some brilliant screening and privacy, but not too large to block your view, Junipers are plant-it-and-forget-it shrubs!
Need a backdrop to highlight your Rose garden or to show off a new garden feature? Create garden vignettes by planting curved allée or groupings of Gold Lace and watch the compliments roll in! A row along your driveway or dividing the front yard from the sidewalk is sure to bump up the curb appeal significantly!

#ProPlantTips for Care:
This colorful Juniper will shine its brightest in full sun but can tolerate some afternoon shade especially when planted in the hotter of its favored growing zones. Junipers must have very well-drained soil or they will struggle to thrive. Water it well until it's established then you can let it be. Applying a 3-4 inch deep layer of mulch around the root system significantly helps all plants thrive!
Prune Junipers in early spring by grabbing the tip of the longer branches and snipping those branches back evenly with the main body of the plant. This reduces the size and encourages new growth behind the cut where you want new growth to originate from. This method keeps the plant shaggy and natural! This low-maintenance shrub only requires additional care during times of drought.
- Full Sun & Some Shade
- Must Be Planted In Well-Draining Soil
- Moderate to Low Moisture Needs
- Prune Early Spring
- Pest & Disease Resistant
- Tolerates Coastal & Urban Conditions
