Once established, these evergreens are quite resilient, but they still need supplemental water during dry spells to prevent the interior needles from browning or shedding prematurely. Consistent moisture is the secret to keeping the foliage looking lush and soft rather than dry and brittle.

Pruning Tips

Since this variety naturally grows into a tidy, upright pyramid, you rarely need to pick up the shears. If you want to maintain a specific size, prune in early spring before the new growth starts because it primarily grows on old wood. Think of it like a light haircut to keep the edges crisp, but avoid cutting back into the leafless "dead zone" in the center since new needles will not grow back from bare wood.

Fertilizer Needs
