Purple Coneflower

Plant arrived in good condition and already had buds.

Buds on arrival is a great sign, especially with coneflowers since they settle in and bloom so well once established. Magnus is a reliable bloomer and the pollinators tend to find it quickly. Thanks for sharing the update, Roxanne. The Nature Hills Team

Coneflower plants arrived in good condition

Coneflower plants arrived in good condition. The plants were only about a foot high and after planting seem to be thriving. I guess I have to wait for later in the summer before they flower.

Frequently Asked Questions

What USDA hardiness zones is Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower suitable for?

  • Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower thrives in USDA hardiness zones 3-9. This native perennial cultivar tolerates both cold winters and hot summers while maintaining its compact, non-leggy growth habit. Plant in full sun for best blooming performance.

What is the mature height and spread of Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower?

  • Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower grows shorter than typical coneflowers while maintaining the same spreading habit. The compact growth stays neat and tidy without becoming leggy. Space plants 12 inches apart on center for best results, available at naturehills.com.

How much sunlight does Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower need – full sun or partial shade?

  • Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower thrives in full sun conditions. This native perennial needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily to produce its best blooms and maintain compact growth. Plant in the sunniest spot of your garden for maximum flowering performance.

What are the soil requirements for planting Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower?

  • Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower thrives in well-draining soil and tolerates poor, rocky conditions typical of native prairie plants. This drought-tolerant perennial actually prefers average to lean soils over rich, fertile ground. Plant in full sun with good drainage for best performance.

How do I care for Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower after planting, including watering?

  • Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower is exceptionally low-maintenance once established, requiring minimal watering after the first season. Water regularly the first year, then rely on natural rainfall as this drought-tolerant native thrives in dry conditions. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage continuous flowering through summer, available at naturehills.com.

Is Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower deer-resistant?

  • Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower is naturally deer-resistant due to its coarse foliage and strong scent that deer typically avoid. As a native perennial, it has developed natural defenses against browsing wildlife. Plant it 12 inches apart in sunny areas for best results.

Can Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower be grown in containers?

  • Yes, Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower grows well in containers with its compact, non-leggy habit. The pinkish-purple blooms work beautifully in pots and formal settings. Use a container at least 12 inches wide with good drainage and full sun placement.

Is Prairie Splendor™ Coneflower propagated from seed, and will it come true to type?

  • Prairie Splendor™ is a cultivar that won't come true to type from seed, producing variable offspring instead of the uniform traits you want. Like most named coneflower varieties, it's propagated through division to maintain its compact habit and consistent bloom timing. Divide established clumps every 3-4 years for best results.
