Toothy petals of these ray flowers start with brick red centers full of yellow pollen. Ringed in more brick to burgundy red with a bright golden yellow finish around the outside circle of the petals! Held aloft on long, slender stems above a mound of green foliage.

Perennial Gaillardia plants maintain vigorous growth if planted in medium, well-drained soils in full sun. It tolerates some dry soils, but it does not do well in heavy clay soils. Preferring regular moisture, once established they become very drought resistant. Gaillardia self-sows, so deadheading after blooms fade is recommended (unless you don’t mind them spreading themselves about the garden!). Prune back in late fall once the foliage begins to yellow.
