Barbican™ Yellow Red Ring Blanket Flower (Gaillardia aristata 'Yellow Red Ring') is a brilliant summer bloomer that pollinators adore! Toothy petals of these ray flowers start with brick red centers full of yellow pollen. Ringed in more brick to burgundy red with a bright golden yellow finish around the outside circle of the petals! Held aloft on long, slender stems above a mound of green foliage.

Producing daisy-like flowers from late spring to early fall, Gaillardia attracts loads of nectar-seeking bees and butterflies and also pollen-seeking pollinators! Deadhead often (or snip plenty for your bouquets all summer long!) to encourage new blooms in profusion! Growing into a mound that's 15-18 inches tall and wide, these are highly-adaptable perennial flowers that add lovely color to bouquets!

It is believed that it was named 'blanket flower' because it resembles the blanket patterns that were created by Native Americans. Gaillardia is native to both North and South America and was named after M. Gaillard de Charentonneau, an 18th-century French patron of botany. Barbican™ is an improved Gaillardia that profusely reblooms and is very cold and heat-resistant in USDA zones 4 - 9!

Planting and Application:

Yellow Red Ring Blanket Flowers love dry sunny locations and are drought tolerant once established. Quite happy to be in the 'hell-strip' between the sidewalk and road, along pathways and edges of borders, or along the side of your driveway no problem!

Gaillardia will add a blast of color to sunny garden beds or borders, and the plant's nectar-rich blooms will bring bees and butterflies to your home's garden. No yard or no room? Drop Blanket Flowers in large planters and mixed containers for stunning blooms without the fuss around your sunny seating areas and front porch pots! Pollinator and cut flower borders, Rock gardens, cottage gardens, and perennial beds gain vivid bi-color fall hues all summer long until frost!

  • Bright Yellow Petals, Red Centers & Toothy Edges
  • Green Mounded Perennials & Long Slender Stems

  • Very Low Maintenance & Easy to Care For
  • Cut-Flowers, Containers, Beds, Borders, Accents & Focal Points

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Perennial Gaillardia plants maintain vigorous growth if planted in medium, well-drained soils in full sun. It tolerates some dry soils, but it does not do well in heavy clay soils. Preferring regular moisture, once established they become very drought resistant. Gaillardia self-sows, so deadheading after blooms fade is recommended (unless you don’t mind them spreading themselves about the garden!). Prune back in late fall once the foliage begins to yellow.

  • Grows Great in Full Sun
  • Low to Average Soil Moisture
  • Well-Drained Average Soil
  • Deadhead to Prevent Reseed & Encourage More Blooms
  • Prune Back Late Fall
